Sunday Morning Quilty Thoughts

First of all I would like to say welcome to Anne, I am a few days late but sometimes my mind does not just wander it leaves altogether.

I gave you a sneaky peak at ny proposed Scrap Vomit Quilt yesterday, well things have moved on apace.

These are a few of the 2 1/2 inch squares sewn into 4 patch blocks and I like them, they are not too loud or dull, a new venture for me, I am a bit of a control freak and there is no control here.

Then I did this.

OH NO, Dull dull dull, I did not like this at all.

I am not about to unpick, these will become pot holders with a thick layer of insulating batting and a backing fabric to brighten them up.

If anyone would like one let me know.

That sound terrible, I only need 2 as I have some that I purchased from The Silver Sewer and love them. So there will be 2 up for grabs.

Earlier this morning I was indulging in a little blog hopping and happened upon the messyjessecraft blog. She was doing a show and tell on what she called her "Little House on The Prairie" quilt. Very Pretty . I shamelessly stole her idea and came up with this

I have just laid the 4 patch blocks out on a light but low volume background fabric. I am almost there. I will pull some more fabrics from the stash and try them out, I may choose something with a slightly darker background or I may go for a solid. On the other hand I may pick 4 fabrics and make 8 patch blocks.
I will keep you posted.

I had to have the picture quite large to show the different effects, for some reason I can not rotate them today.

I was going to prattle on about random thoughts but this has taken over, there are a few things that I would like to share though.

I am feeling particularly lucky today

I do not have to choose between warmth or food.
I do not have to slog away in a job that I detest so that I can pay my bills.
I am able to save for the things that I may want or need in the future.
I live in a warm comfortable home that is mine.
I am surrounded by love and friendship every day of my life.
I am literate and numerate, giving me infinite opportunities.

I could go on but there is no need, I am sure that you see where I am coming from.

Happy Sunday to you all.   TTFN    Pam

  1. I think they are pretty not " scrap vomit". Heres a weird thing as I just finished my blog about "luck or choice?" and theres your blog about lucky too. Strange coincidence or is the sunny weather making us feel better. We have sunshine for 2nd day, I hope you are sunny too.

    1. Yes the sun has got his hat on and is out to play today, it is lovely. I do not think that it is such a coincidence, we are both "of a certain age", we practice what we preach and we have both worked hard for what we have. We both enjoy our lives and have an other half who is not just supportive but very much a part of who we are and what we do.
I count my blessings every day rain or shine and if I do have a grey day, all it takes is seeing Ben tearing about, full of the joys of life, to snap me out of it.

  2. I like both designs but prefer the second one. What are pot holders? I have also -been feeling lucky today I cant explain why I am just grateful for what I have got. Maybe its sun related.

    1. Pot holders are just padded heat resistant holders for taking hot dishes and tins from the oven, I think it is primarily a US thing, I see lots of them on the blogs that I read. Like oven gloves only pretty.

Great reasons to feel lucky too. What more can you ask for? XX

    1. Thank you Anne, I think my problem is that most of the squares were gifted or swaps, I hoped that it would open my mind to different tastes but the control freak bit of me is reluctant to comply.

  4. Not vomitty at all! And you have decided upon a classic 9-patch pattern which always looks good, and will pull any 'aberrant' pieces together, colour wise.

Yes, certainly feeling better this weekend, though I think today is a bit chillier than Saturday, nevertheless I am feeling full of the joys.

I love your finishing remarks - I can nod at everyone of you 'be thankfuls for' and let's face it, if we've got all those things, life can't be bad, can it?

    1. I am fortunate that my life has been mostly good, I have had to work for what I have but that helps me to appreciate it all. I try to do unto others and offer help freely as and when it is needed. I sometimes feel a little bit guilty for having so much.
