The Calm after The Storm

It is chillax time, the quilt is finished and put away. I have 2 more shifts to work, that will be 6 out of 7 and then I have 7 straight days off.

The backing for the quilt was a lucky find in my stash, I am ashamed to say that I do not remember buying it, but I am so glad that I did, I had 5 yards and used it all. The binding is made from all the prints that I used and I made enough to trim the cushions. I 'fess up that it is because my math skills deserted me an I made far too much.

I have decided to shop from the pantry and freezer this week, no planning, just look in and pick something randomly, tonight we are having Toad in the Hole with onion gravy, carrot and swede mash and broccoli. We all love it and I have not cooked it for ages.

The bread turned out fine, dense with a small crumb but not heavy, and a wonderful rich flavour. In the end I left out the caraway seeds but will add them next time. I am going back to simple sourdough for a while as I can not afford to stuff my face with bread, it goes straight to my hips.

I have 2 loads of washing on the line and all the doors and windows open, it is a glorious day. I have to sort out the left overs from my quilt and cut the cushion backs but that will be tomorrow. The dogs may both get a bath in a little while and Ben can have an extended walk, have to shift that bread somehow.

More tea and then bath time for the dogs. They are pretending to be sleeping. TTFN  Pam

  2. I agree, I just love that bright blue flowery fabric, it's so cheerful! And the backing goes perfectly with it. It's turned out to be the most beautiful quilt. You must feel so proud.

Good luck with shopping from the freezer. We are shopping from home for the rest of the month now.

    1. I am pleased with it but glad it is finished, I love the whole process but I am not a natural quilter, I really need to upgrade my sewing machine, birthday and Christmas combined present maybe.

  4. I did have a slice or three, with soft cheese and salad. Toad in the hole was good.
