More Waiting but No Time Wasted

I did the trip to hospital this morning and it was relatively painless. My gear box has been a bit squidgey for the last 2 days so I dropped into the garage on the way home. There was a problem with the linkage, it did not take long to fix. I did not wish to sit around so borrowed a car and came home.

While I was waiting for the call to collect my car I found this out.

A pattern that has been sitting around for months and a duvet cover that was destined to become something else.

Here it is almost finished, I just have to find a zip and sew it in and finish off the waistband.

It has fairly deep pockets which I love in a skirt.

As you can see my purse will fit if I push it right down and it measures 8" wide by 4" tall.

I like this skirt, it is quite full but there is not a mass of fabric bunched around the waist. I am going to make this again, I already have 2 more lengths of fabric pressed ready to cut out.

Reasons to be grateful.

1.  A new skirt that fits and is just perfect for me.

2.  Two more in the pipeline.

3.  A quick turn round in Swansea this morning.

4.  My car was fixed for free.

5.  The sun has come out this afternoon.

The weather reporter said that today was to be the hottest so far, not in Cwmgors or Swansea. We started the day with a fine mist that turned first to drizzle and then to rain. It has not been cold just wet but as I said the sun is shining now.
The Hostas that were a gift from my neighbour have sent up flower spikes, once they open I will share them.I am keeping them in pots for now just in case I do move later in the year.

One more session of weaving ends and my granny blanket will be ready for a border, I must make a decision on that very soon. I need to get it finished as I want to make at least one more crochet cushion and then a Ripple Blanket. Sometimes I almost wish that I had not found Attic24, there are so many pretty things that I want to make. I need an extra day a week, just for me.

Enough, I have to decide exactly what I am having for dinner. I know that it will include some local new potatoes, mushrooms and garlic sauce. I am off to the kitchen to see what leaps from fridge to hand, I may just steam a heap of veg with the mushrooms over the potatoes. I do not need meat or fish for every meal, I have a plethora of cheese in the fridge and some Stilton would go wonderfully well in a garlic sauce.

  1. Hi Pam.
I have just finished reading your blog from the beginning & you have had a roller coaster.
I am just starting to do some quilting plus I want to crochet but seem to have a bit of a mental block with it! You seem to have picked it up so quickly.
    The skirt is very nice.

    1. The thing about a roller coaster is that you go up as well as down, I have been through no more than thousands of others and I have not sunk.
I watched loads of you tube tutorials and got a book from the library. Look at Attic24 and Bunny Mummy blogs for crochet inspiration.
I am really pleased with the skirt, I have another cut out in the same colours but a smaller print and a dark print that I am not too sure about. I will make them up and decide whether to keep the dark one or not. I do like lots of colour and hopefully the dark will be perfect with a bright top.

  2. The skirt looks great, I have some pieces cut out ready but they have stayed put on the top of my machine for a couple of weeks, I must get down to it. The weather was slightly grotty yesterday compared to the rest of the UK,never mind a bit of rain is good now & then.

    1. It is grey and drizzley here but I am not too concerned, I will sew to my hearts content and get all 3 skirts to the zip insertion point and then slip over to Isabeau in Cross Hands to buy the zips and stock up on general haberdashery. It is so long since I did any serious dressmaking that my stock is almost none existent.

    1. As you can see I write as I think, as I said my gear box is squidgey, and so was the one in the car. I found a little lane that took me directly to the A&E Dept, very narrow and steep in places, a bit nerve wracking the first time but fast and traffic free. There are some lush properties along the way, it was a case of "open the window and smell the money"

    2. I think you might have the wrong end of the stick! I wasn't being critical. I was thinking it was clever, just my sense of humour as you went off to hospital with a squid grey gearbox - sounded a most unfortunate complaint! I too like nosying at posh houses that I could never afford. I do hope you are not miffed with me xx sorry if you are x

    3. Oh dear - a squid grey gearbox sounds almost as uncomfortable as a squidgy

    4. No No Rachelradiostar, I was trying to be humourous right back at you, except that my gear/brain box is often squidgy. It certainly was today in Tesc. I was filling a trolley for the food bank and after searching for sugar I asked a member of staff. OOh the shame....I was standing right in front of about 2 tonnes of it.. Some of the houses were indeed posh and some were just aged and settled and looked part of the landscape and that takes generations and serious money.

  4. The skirt looks fab. I'm always in awe of anyone who can sew, my mum was a knitter, not a sewer, and I've followed on from her. Sewing is such a great skill, I encouraged Eleanor to take Textiles as one of her options at school as I'd like her to know a bit more than I do and she seems to have done really well with it.

    1. My Mum was the same, she took her knitting bag everywhere and produced a nonstop stream of garments from it. She could sit down to watch her soaps and without seeming to glance at her hand whip up a pair of socks, the only time she looked at them was to check the measurement before turning the heel and shaping the toe. My Granny was the one with needle and thread and taught me to sew before I was old enough to go to school.

  5. Hi Pam hope you are feeling better, I have just got some patterns for bags and aprons, I haven't got a clue with sewing but I will teach myself, just looking out for suitable material from the charity shop,x

    1. I tend to use curtains for bags, I look out for lined ones that way you have the bag lining as well, although duvet covers and pillow cases make good bag linings. My flowery skirts were a single duvet cover but very heavyweight fabric, more like light home dec weight. Have fun with your sewing, relax and have a brew to hand.
