Lots of Garlic, oh yes indeed.

Numbers 28 and 29 from my challenge are done and dusted, one is for me and one for Cerys.

Peg bags, not exciting but very handy, my last one fell to bits, it was over 20 years old and had seen lots of service. I did pick out the green binding for the pink with white daisies to match the dot in the flower middles. I just thought that it was a bit too matchy matchy so changed them round.
This is not my old pattern but one from this book.

Written by Debbie Shore, I have been a fan of her work since I first saw her on the TV a year or so ago. Her style is straightforward and uncomplicated, just how I like it.

I have this book by her as well but have made nothing from it as yet.

I have been dipping in and out of all my books since I moved, and found several that I had forgotten.

I made a small batch of Carrot and Garlic chutney, the ingredients are always available so no need to make loads. I was intending to make the Date, Apricot and orange but have 4 jars from last year. Again I can make this in small batches when ever I want to.

Lots of fat cloves of garlic, because they are cooked whole they are sweet rather than pungent. Little nuggets of flavour on the plate, brilliant with a sausage roll or pork pie, and superb with veggy burgers.

My first harvested courgette, 6" long and about 2" wide, I had a few spring onions and some mushrooms, and a few cooked French beans and sweetcorn kernels. Add a splash of white wine, a good dollop of creme fraiche, garlic puree and salt and pepper. Poured onto cooked Fusilli and hey presto, Pasta Primavera. A delicious and cheap dinner for 2 cooked in 10 minutes.

It might not be the classic recipe but it used what I had and was just the job.

Reasons to be grateful.

1.  After a near miss on Sunday I am feeling fine.

2.  Regardless of the weather reports we have had more sun than rain.

3.  More excess things have gone from the house, giving more space.

4.  I have started to dry some herbs ready for the winter.

5.  I am thoroughly enjoying the Elly Griffiths books.

On Sunday I went to Ammanford, shopping, with friends and after putting the shopping trolley away a blind, deaf idiot almost reversed over me. He/she drove away in a roar and left me on the deck. Luckily there were some decent folk there who helped me to my feet. I was very shaken and have been back on pain killers, I was stiff for a couple of days but am much better today.
I hope to pick more blackberries tomorrow for cordial. The rose hips are on the way and I will make syrup and jelly from them as well. Rose hip syrup is so old fashioned, my Granny made it during the war and she taught me. I like it as a long drink with fizzy water and poured onto plain yogurt or vanilla ice cream.

The last 2 evenings have been on the cool side, I have been glad to have crochet on my lap, my big granny blanket is having the last 3 rows around it and will then go on the bottom of Francesca,s bed.

That is it from me tonight, I still have to read my blog list today.

    1. I am as right as rain now, lots of support and long soaks in a hot bath with Epsom salts have worked wonders.

    1. The chutney is an old favourite, I could eat it by the jar. The peg bags were so easy to make, next time I will cut them differently and lose one seam. They should have had a button and bow in the middle but ti was not needed.

  3. Hope you are better soon. I love the pegbags. Mine is on its last legs so I think that I'll be making one soon.
I think the Debbie Shore books are great for inspiration. xx

    1. Next time I am going to cut them out with the bottom edge on the fold, that will leave out one seam. I may also make it a bit deeper and put a small pleat in the front to make the pocket puff out a bit. My hands are big and there is not a deal of room in the original. The truth is that I have to tweak everything.

  4. Bl**dy hell you were lucky. I'm glad your ok but I know that fight to get off painkillers and it's terrible you had to go back on them.

    Take care x

    1. I was very fortunate, an inch or so closer and I would have been under the wheels. The painkillers are doing their job, I only took one yesterday and fingers crossed none today.

  5. Hope you are more stirred than shaken, Pam and no lasting injury to you or the car. Love the idea of the bottled garlic - I use such a lot, and often roast whole bulbs because as you say, they sweeten beautifully. I have all the Elly Griffiths books and am chaffing at the bit for the next one!! Lxx

    1. I have read the first and am halfway through the second, they will be keepers as Fran will read them and i can envisage rereading in a year or so. I have the Kingdom DVD,s and often put one on to see the area more than the story.

  6. What an awful thing to happen. It's a shame that no one got the driver's number plate, there's just so many bad drivers on the roads these days, they shouldn't be allowed. Hope you recover soon, it must have been a terrible shock.

  7. I'm so sorry to hear of your near miss. I hope you feel better soon. Things like that are traumatic. I am so happy I found a few blogs from UK and Down Under. I'm learning things I had no idea existed. May I ask what a peg bag is used for? It's a item I've not heard of. Also, I noticed someone replaced asterisks for letters when they said bloody. Is that a naughty word in the UK? Very immature of me, but I'd like to know what it means - if you feel comfortable in explaining it. Stay safe.

    1. A peg bag is used to hang on the line while putting laundry out, it holds the pegs so that you do not leave them on the line all the time. Bloody is not really rude, but is used as a mild swear or cuss word, it is a very Brit thing to use asterisks, hopefully it will prevent some from being offended.
