A very giggly Sunday

I run a very real risk of offending quite a large number of people today, I am sorry if you are upset but this is just my take on this subject, and my regular readers will know that I am a bit doolally at the best of times.

Yesterday was a cut, stitch, press, rinse and repeat sort of day. Nose to the grindstone and all that jazz, mind you I loved every minute of it.

And now to the crux of the matter. By chance I was reading a blog post about this craze for folding clothes to matchbox size and clicked onto a U tube video. How to fold tee shirts, I could not believe my eyes, there was a female version of Sheldon (Big Bang Theory) using a plastic gizmo to fold clothes. Then I spotted a tutorial on making a cardboard copy. I started to giggle and then spied a whole raft of like videos, how to fold knickers, socks, shorts......you name it and somebody will show you how to fold it. I watched a few, well quite a lot really, and they got me to the point of crying with laughter. There was one with 2 people telling me how to fold "an underwear" if they could not bring themselves to say knickers why not say briefs. I fully understand that some of us have more clothes than cupboard space and have to be fanatically tidy.
I have read many times that most of us wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time. The two do not add up in my mind, but it happens, I am guilty of that but not quite to such an extreme.

I am very strict with my one in, one out rule and still have the odd garment of five that I have hung onto with gritted teeth that would put Jaws to shame and nails of titanium that many a Kardashian would drool over.
This summer instead of just putting my winter clothes away I will go through then with eagle eyes and plan on discarding perhaps 25%. Then when the summer clothes come out I will go through them before hanging them up or putting away in drawers.
Without looking I know that there are 2 pairs of boots and a pair of shoes that will go to the CS. I very rarely part with my footwear but the boots nip my hammer toe and so do the shoes. All are from Hotter and are in very good condition, I hope that someone else can benefit from them.

Anyhow, back to folding, I sincerely hope that nobody is offended, it was  a morning of light entertainment for me and has put me in an excellent frame of mind.

I also read a blog about a Five Pound Challenge, "lovely Grey day", and it has sparked my imagination. I am going to take £5 worth of fabric and trim and make something. I will try to sell it for a profit and spend that on more material to make 2 somethings. rinse and repeat often. If successful I should have a decent amount of money to donate. What do you think, is there a chance that I could make a reasonable amount of money. The thought of several hundreds of pounds going to The Dogs Trust is enough to spur me on.

No photo today, all my batteries are on charge. Back tomorrow with a plan of action, if anyone has any suggestions I welcome them.

  1. Hi Pam, I must admit to finding the current flood of folding clothes advice amusing too. If I folded my clothes before putting them in the drawers, the drawers would look empty. I was ruthless after my illness 2 years ago. I have just 4 work dresses in my wardrobe & 1 best dress, 3 cardigans, one evening jacket & 1 winter jacket. In my drawers I have 5 vest/teashirts, 10 prs knickers & 3 bras & that's my lot.

    1. I do have a load of clothes but this year will see them pared right back. I will probably reduce my wardrobe by 50%

    1. I have had a trawl through the stash and picked out some of my real hard core sale bargains. I would love to make a decent sum for the Dogs Trust. 4 of my dogs came from them and they do sterling work.

  4. I had a good laugh at the plastic T-shirt folder too. If you got one of those you'd have to fold the T-shirts small in order to fit the gizmo into the drawer too. I have got the tidy up bug at the moment and am finding it much easier to find things if they are organised properly. It won't last though - if anywhere's untidy it means it's being lived in and used and I aim to keep active as long as possible.

    1. I struggle with my sewing stuff but make it a rule to end the week with a massive tidy up and clear every flat surface.

    1. I fold some things but simply and with not plastic guide. I do hang most of my clothes, then I can see exactly what I want at a glance.

  6. I don't know what the big craze is about, I've always folded my t shirts like that. I didn't bother looking at anything else.

    1. These things come in waves, engulf everywhere and then like mist in the morning disappear, thank goodness.

  7. I've been hooked in Marie Kondo's methods as my house is tiny and I'm still learning how to live in a small place. I'm on the way to sorting the house.

    1. My cottage was tiny but had an amazing amount of built in storage. This house is much bigger but without a single cupboard, I had to be very creative when I moved. Now of course nature has had her way and the place is full. This year the clothes are being pared back. The gadgets have been thinned out and I have not missed one of them.

    1. Who has knickers big enough to worry about, I do not wear "apple gatherers" like my Granny did.

  9. I saw it, I saw it, the plastic t-shirt folder upper thing. It was huge! All,laid out on the floor like a massive flat packed plastic crate. Have you seen the one that shows you how to fold a g string? Hilarious! And she tells you to double fold the string bits if it's a little on the large side. Ha ha ha ha ha. Ps. I have done the t shirts and socks and feel so virtuous.

    1. It is good to have a laugh, mind you I have a few pals who could do with a lesson on actually picking things off the floor and putting them away. But that is a whole new can of worms.

  10. nothing like a good giggle. I was in stitches at the folding technique for t shirts called fold with the wind. Baked beans have a lot to answer for in the wind direction!

    1. It is there, have another look. I have folded t shirts in the past but the few that I have now hang.

  12. I'm afraid I must admit to being very lazy: at my house if it can go on a hanger it does, and everything else gets dropped in a drawer, only one mind you, as I do believe in 'wash and wear'. Don't think I've folded underwear in 40 years.

    1. There is one that shows you how to fold a bra, as far as I can see there is only one way. Like you I am a fan of the hanger.

  13. I don't need a video to show me how to fold a T shirt or any other garment for that matter. What IS a new idea to me though is being able to see all my T shirts in one go (I haven't that many!) so I will try that method of storing clothes and see how I go with it.
Maybe someone should buy a foldy-plastic thingy and offer as a prize

    1. I think that lots of people will gain something from all these ideas, I hang my t shirts but if I had enough to fill a drawer I would want to see them at a glance.

    1. When I was washing and ironing for 2 I used to fold t shirts like that but just on the ironing board. My Brother on Oz is a gadget freak and I may have to see if I can find one to send him.

  15. You got me giggling madly!
Human's have been folding and storing clothes for thousands of years - what is it with these self-important people who have nothing useful to pass on, so invent something and present it as important? It is scary though - so many people can't put a meal together without following a recipe book written by a TV chef. Will we go the same way with our knickers - a coffee table book named Celebrity Pantie Folding For Beginners, written by Katie Price maybe??
