No sewing today...yet

I have had a glorious day, most of it in the garden. The bare minimum was done indoors and I was out there, soaking up the warmth and enjoying getting through the list of jobs.

The front garden is almost done, a couple of hours finishing the bit under the window and all will be ready for planting.

The back has has a good inroad made, most of the retaining wall and the bed on top has been cleaned up, just an hour left to do.
The potatoes in pots have all been topped up with compost and will just need a regular drink now.
I have got the last of the sweet peas in with some twiggy sticks to help them start their climb up the arch. I will be removing the tendrils and tying them in, my Grandfather did this so the flower stems grew straight.
The greenhouse had a good check over and watering, I had to pot on some of the Balconi tomatoes as they were bursting out of the pots. They are now in their final pots but will stay inside at night as the temperatures are still in single figures.
One of my compost makers is already half full and I now have 3 stacks of turf, green side down, covered to break down into loam. That will be a welcome addition to the beds next year.

I took a photo of the old apple tree next door, last year there was hardly a blossom on it and no fruit.

I had to take it over the fence as the garden is just a rubbish tip, but I will probably liberate some of the fruit. I may have to invest in some thigh high leather boots though, perhaps I will just wear my long waterproof coat and leggings.

Ben had a bath and came out on the grass to dry off.

He starts off in the middle of his towel.

Then starts to "swim" around.

Finally he settles down and then lies in the sun until dry, in bad weather or just cold days he is quite happy to have the hairdryer, just as long as he can lay down for it.

That is it for my day so far, I have some hand sewing again this evening and my fingers are crossed for another fine day tomorrow.
There should have been a change in the weather this afternoon but it has stayed glorious, the sun is still warm so Ben and I are going for a little walk.

    1. It was very hot this afternoon, just a little breeze to cool me down, I had to slap on lots of cream, I do not want to burn.

    1. He looks like a puppy when he is first bathed, his fur sticks up and makes him look rounder.

    1. He is a spaniel/ Yorkie cross, just a bit bigger than a Bichon or Westie. He loves being in the garden with me, he makes sure that he is where he can see me at all times.

    1. He loves his bath and then I have to watch that he stays on his towel till he is dry, grass stains do show up on his coat.

  5. Ben looks so cute on his towel, like a puppy. When I first saw that photo I thought it was s new puppy. What a good boy staying on his towel. My white poodle likes nothing more that dragging his newly washed self in the dirt . Our soil is a deep red volcanic soil . He then looks like an mottled apricot poodle .

    1. Only because he is elderly, as a young dog he would find a patch of soil and roll in it.

  7. You sound like you had a super productive day. It was gloriously sunny here yesterday too. The only time I was in the garden was at lunchtime pegging out and then after work bringing it back in! Fingers crossed it's nice at the weekend!

  8. You have to make the most of the good weather while it's here, we never know how long it's going to last for, do we? It sounds like a super productive day and your garden and plants sound to be thriving. My potatoes have just been earthed up in their containers, I think one more lot of compost will go in before it's to the top. Awww, Ben is so cute. Archie does the same thing when he's wet, he wriggles about on his towel to dry himself off. When he goes in the sea he rolls around on the sand to dry off.

    1. Ben has done this since I first had him and it makes me chuckle every time,
I begin to think that I will have enough potatoes for half the village.

  9. Ben is too cute! My pup will follow me into te shower then enjoy the hair fryer, too. I tell her she's my best friend because she's always willing to be by my side. Do you think she understands how important she is to me? Like your Ben! Stay safe.

    1. I am certain that she does, Ben knows exactly what he means to me, he does try to take advantage some times.
