On A Roll with my 1600P

I have to say that I am delighted with my 1600P, it sews like a dream at 100 miles an hour, at least that is what it feels like. The fabric runs through the presser foot as straight as a die, the foot is quite narrow which makes for a good sight line.
I just wish that there was a free arm, that would make it perfect. It is only straight stitch but would do 95% of my sewing if I needed it to.

I made 6 child size aprons and 2 zipper pouches today, the only thing I sewed on my horizon was the zip insertion.

I pulled 3 half yard cuts from the stash and got 2 aprons from each.

The ties are long pieces of ribbon, also from the stash, they thread through the sides and loop around the neck. I could have made ties from fabric but wanted these to be a simple job.

I then had another dip into my cupboard, I found 3 small pieces of blue that just cried out to be used up.

These 2 prints are from my small stash of Texas Wildflower prints, I won some in a giveaway and found the rest online.

There was enough of this print to line both, the zips were part of a random batch that I bought online for a ridiculously low price. They came from China and only took around 10 days to arrive.

I am comfortable with the machine now so tomorrow it will be on the frame along with a practice quilt.

I have been making these items from a book, written by Shea Henderson, School of Sewing. Francesca wants to sew and this book was recommended to me, it came from Amazon and was less than £10 with postage. Once she has spent some time getting used to a machine she will have no problem following the lessons. I would not hesitate to suggest it to anybody who wanted to learn to sew.

My Breast of Lamb was delicious, and the coffee ice cream with roughly chopped walnuts and a good drizzle of maple syrup was lovely. The ice cream was quite dense, I should have used twice as much cream and will do next time.

Now I am off to tidy the kitchen and then plan tomorrow's sewing. I am going to work my way through the book and build a nice pile of goodies for gifts.

  1. That ice cream sounds delicious, no point in me making it though as OH wouldn't eat it.....he drinks coffee and likes walnuts, but won't eat anything coffee flavoured and isn't keen on eating anything with nuts in......odd (but lovable) man that he is.

    1. It was nice, just a bit fudgy, when I make it again I will add more cream. My taste buds are particular, I love crunchy peanut butter, hate the smooth and hardly ever eat peanuts.

  4. I can imagine you, sewing furiously, steam coming out of the machine as you make aprons at a million miles an hour!

    1. The steam was coming out of my ears I think. It is very fast.

  5. Love the aprons, so cute. Sounds like you had a great day sewing, topped off with a lovely dinner and pud - my kind of day!

    1. I had a very good day. The aprons will get lots of use, Junior, Kaitlyn and Faith often bake with their Mamgu.

  6. Gosh, you've been busy again. Glad you're enjoying the Janome. I've never quite trusted Chinese offers of ridiculously cheap stuff on Ebay, but shows you can get a bargain!

    1. I saw the add and for less than £3 with postage decided it was worth the chance. There was a good selection of colours and all are the invisible kind. I am going to look for some longer ones.

    1. I will make almost anything that someone would like to buy, I raise funds for the Dogs Trust and help cover some costs at a local animal rescue, there is always a list of supplies needed apart from food. You would be amazed at the amount of medicated shampoo a center goes through, and it does not come cheap, my vet does sell me a case at a time for a discounted price though.
