Painting, Mowing and Sewing

I have had a couple of busy days, yesterday the sun shone and I was pacing round the garden, trying to decide what to do first. BINGO
Paint the shed. It was here when I arrived, but I did not find it straight away, I had to hack my way through the undergrowth to find it. I am not really exaggerating, it is sheltered under a tree and the brambles had gone up and over the roof.
Anyway, it was dry inside although very shabby so I pressed it into service. I had bought some wood stain for the repurposed shoe rack, that now lives in the greenhouse, there was loads left and I managed to put 2 coats on.
I also got 2 loads of washing, done, dried, ironed and put away, upstairs had its regular Monday blitz, how did the socks get behind the dressing table mirror?

Today was sewing and grass cutting. It finally registered that Junior has a birthday at the end of the month, and a cake cushion was on order from him.

I got this cut out early, then whizzed round the house and went to the library. After walking Ben I got stuck in and pieced, layered and quilted it. I did a simple envelope back in navy blue and used some red and white binding left from another project. Once the binding was stitched to the front I had to get out and cut the grass.

Before dinner I had a little play with the Janome Horizon and finally got the button holes in these little gift bags.

Dinner was a simple sauce, of lean steak mince and vegetables, I spotted a version on Sarina's Frugal Kitchen so made that, I added a tin of tomatoes chopped and some Worcestershire sauce, it was good poured over some steamed cauliflower.

After dinner had been cleared and the kitchen put to rights I stitched the binding down while I watched Criminal Minds on the sky box. Not bad, but not a great episode.

Now I have some Rizzoli and Isles to catch up with, again not bad but I prefer the books, I just fancy some easy watching while I do some EPP.

More gardening tomorrow and some more sewing (I hope) from my book.

  2. oooh i love the Rizzoli and Isles books! i've not seen the programme yet but i don't think i could get away with it after loving the books so much.
I barely have any socks left to get hidden behind a dresser! i hand wash as our machine is broken and air dry so how they still get lost i have no idea!
I also love the wee cake cushion :)

    1. I love the gift bags. That's a concept that's lost in the USA. We're just now remembering to bring bags to the grocery store. Well, I'm just remembering. The thing that got me to remember is my daughter sent me a bag with a picture of the grands emblazed on it. I love it.

    2. I did not mind the programs, just background really while I stitched away. I much prefer the book over film of program any time.

    1. I made one for James as he is trying to lose weight and the children wanted it, so Junior will have his at the end of the month and Kaitlin will have hers in August.

    1. I enjoy the series and have not missed an episode. I do record them onto the sky box and watch when I have time.

  5. That was good, having enough wood stain left to give the shed 2 coats. Those gift bags are beautiful.

    1. I still have more than half the pot left, not bad for £3. I made the bags ages ago and just put them away, out of sight and out of mind, found them yesterday and now I will sew the buttons on this evening.

    1. I missed the start of that through work, I am not good at remembering to watch programs. If I see something that sounds reasonable I put it to record on series link and then have a look. Rizzoli & Isles is ok but only in the background, I prefer the books.

    2. You've had a busy couple of days!! Good thing you got the outside work done, and the washing dry - it's dreadful today.
