Vomiting Inducing Cards and other nonsense.

I was in Neath today and had to find a birthday card for a friends hubby. There is a plethora of card shops and shops that sell cards and I went into most of them. I looked for humour first, I think that it has left the town.
Then I looked at the clever cards, well I would have done if I had found any. In the end I chose a card with no writing at all as every other one that I picked up had sloppy, slushy overly sentimental drivel inside. Most of them were totally nauseating and I can not think of anybody that I would want to send one to.
I know that there are loads of clever card makers out there and I could do it myself. Well I am certain that I have said in the past that the only times that I have tried I ended up with more glue on me than I had to start with. BUT this has encouraged me to think again and I will be looking for a card making workshop to try.

As to the other nonsense, words almost fail me, just have a look at this lot.

Most of these have had a spray or two from them, then have been packed into a cupboard.

Most of these toiletries have no been opened.

Just a few more.

Some of these have had perhaps a third used, BTW the Ralph Lauren in the middle retails at over £100.

Clothes waiting to be sorted into bags for the CS.

Clothes, bed linen sets, books, china,bags.... you think of it and it is in here, sorted and ready to go.

There is more in my car and a mountain of vinyl albums on the stairs and a massive bag of shoes to be paired up.

Luckily there are 2 charity collections for clothes, shoes and bags in the village this week. The rest will go to the CS in Neath next Tuesday.

Much of this is as good as new, some of it has tags on and some is in the original packaging.

It was "comfort shopping" gone doolally. There is as much to come again, at least, and I have a full day tomorrow and possibly Thursday packing into my car to deal with at home in peace and quiet.
I have to find homes for the toiletries and perfumes, I asked in 3 CS,s today and they do not take them unless they are in sealed packages.
I though about a Woman's Refuge but have no idea how to go about it, I will have to google it.

I shudder to think of the amount of money that is piled up in my house, there are 70 bottles of perfume alone.

This has been a wake up call to me and I am more determined than ever to not buy any sewing materials until I absolutely have to.

It is so easy to let it get out of control, I did find some Christmas fabric the other week that I forgotten, only about 12 metres!!

After watching Hugh last night it has made this seem obscene, but I will make sure that as much as possible is used.

Now I am off to rustle through plastic bags.

  3. I'd suggest doing a car boot sale (perhaps for a Charity?) with some of the stuff, especially the perfumes. That way it would all find new homes as folk love to have a bargain, and a charity would benefit.

    1. Good idea but it is really the wrong time of the year for car booting, but I will resolve it.

  4. I wonder if nursing homes would take the toiletries? Some nice perfumes could make an old lady very happy.

    1. As far as I know there are strict rules about things going in to nursing homes.

  5. I saw some Yardley cosmetics in your pictures. I bought that when I was in college years and years ago. It was quite the thing.
Call your local police and ask them if they can contact shelters to see if they would be interested in your fragrances.
Are you allowed to have yard sales? Those things go fast in them.

    1. It is far too cold and wet for yard sales now but I am going to drop into the local Police Station and give that idea a try.

  6. I think your toiletries and fragrances would probably sell really well on eBay - especially in the run up to Christmas.

    1. I have never sold on eBay and really do not want the hassle.

  7. If you have sky/freeview try looking at the shopping channels. I know it sounds daft but bear with me on this. When they are trying to sell craft items they give demonstrations. Also try you tube or craftsy. They sell course on there that you can watch again and again.
As for the perfumes there should be some jumble sales coming up near to christmas that may take them to sell xx

    1. I had a fudge round on the box and found a craft channel that I will have a look at. There are no jumble sales in this area at all, such a shame.

  8. Reminds me of the clean-out after my Mother passed away - and she hadn't been shopping in three years due to having Alzheimer's - I shudder to think how much more she could have accumulated!

  9. I have no idea how to go about it, but I imagine that the perfumes could be sold on e-bay, even if you get a few pounds each, it might then be easier to donate the money to charity, or use it to buy one bottle that you really love for yourself. Well done on all the clearing out! It is hard work! xx

  11. Invite your friends over to have a go at choosing their favorite fragrances.,if you are on Facebook put them on there for low cost or free. People love free stuff.

    1. Not a bad idea, but most of my friends are in my age group and just like me they have "their" perfume and do not want to change.

  12. The perfumes would fetch quite a bit of money if they are discontinued as vintage.

  13. Some charities do resell perfume, our local Cats Protection does.
I would happily buy the lot from you, but it sounds as though you would like to give them to a charity, which is a lovely thing to do.

    1. I do not want to profit from my friends troubles, she could sell them herself but just wants to put it all behind her and move forward. She told me today that every bag or boxful that I put in my car makes her stand a little taller.

  14. We live by the rule, if it's not in our house we can't throw it away, so we don't buy much now. Chloe is my favorite perfume

    1. My rule of thumb is, one in, one out. I only replace what can not be mended or is completely worn out. I have worn Red Door for many years and do not intend to change.

  15. What a shame you have just missed car boot season. Perfumes and toiletries sell so well, and your friend would have made a lot of money.
