The net tunnel has stood firm and done its job of protecting the onions, shallots and garlic.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Seed potatoes and a few other seeds have been ordered and are on their way. Pots and seed trays are clean, compost is stacked and all is ready. all I need now is the right weather at the right time. Hahahaha, that's why there is a tunnel and a greenhouse.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I have been knitting through the stash and I know that it is shrinking, it just isn't obvious.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;">There are many more projects finished and at least 15 works in progress, as you can see socks are popular, all of my family wear hand knit socks now so there are always a pair on the needles. right now there are 3 pairs, colour work for solitary knitting, patterned for when we are chatting and vanilla for tv time.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;">I am still sewing masks for whoever needs them. at the moment I have some Rasta Flag coloured fabric in the peace symbol print for a neighbour on the sewing table. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;">I am happy keeping to house and garden with a good walk with the dogs as the weather permits. I do not see it changing much this side of August, if then. Even having the vacine will not encourage me to go out and about as there are so many variants that may or may not be covered.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;">Stay safe wherever you are and be Idiot Aware at all times.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;"> TTFN Pam</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span><p></p>Pamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18406981075860636289noreply@blogger.com5South Australia, Australia-30.0002315 136.2091547-44.274458153276314 118.63187727804871 -15.726004846723688 153.78643212195129tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2541083431029092303.post-46900508968264648162021-01-26T11:09:00.000+00:002021-01-26T11:09:32.375+00:00Making my mind up<p> T<span style="font-size: medium;">rying to at least.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">My Asda order is delivered every Wednesday, I selected a mid week slot for a couple of reasons.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">1, It was one of the cheapest options.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">2. The new deliveries of fresh products should have hit the shelves after the weekend frenzy had emptied them.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I go into my order page and stick in the basics and then on Tuesday refine to just what I need and a few things for the cupboard if I need to bring it up to the minimum amount for free delivery.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I have a list fixed to the boiler and as I take an item from the pantry/fridge/freezer I note it down. That way I (hopefully) do not run out of anything. There has been the odd failure but I can swap things around if needs be.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I find it all to easy to err on the side of "buy it regardless of stock level". Thats why I have just decanted the last from a bag of pasta that I bought early last year. It was vac packed with an oxygen absorber and was well in date so no issues. Apart from the fact that we were fed up with Fussilli. I know it all tastes the same but I like to eat with my eyes, and it is nice to have a pasta which has hollows to hold the sauce. I did buy a bag of Penne at the same time and that went much faster.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Some of my friends will not consider on line food shopping, I was right there with them at one time. Now I am used to have all the hard work done for me and accept that the in store shopper will not have the time to hunt for the freshest and or largest item. I have returned a few things and a complaint about a miniscule swede got me an apology and a refund even though I kept it.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I have seen and heard comments about the poor quality of Asda food, the ready meals may well be poor but I do not buy them. The fresh food is quite satisfactory and I have no complaints regarding shelf life or quality. I have been in to other supermarkets and seen fruit and veg on display that I would not touch with a barge pole. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The big plus factor for me is that I have my slot for a year and will renew it for another. That is not to be sneezed at, I get an email that allows me to select my own subs if something is not available. My order has only been late once, due to weather, and only once was an item missing and that was credited within a couple of hours.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Thats all for today, I will tell you about my 12 cast ons next time. With photos as far as possible. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Take care and stay safe.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"> TTFN Pam</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p>Pamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18406981075860636289noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2541083431029092303.post-78564821921831680782021-01-24T07:05:00.001+00:002021-01-24T07:05:25.536+00:00And about time too.<p> <span style="font-size: medium;">Well, its been a long while.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I took time out and it stretched to the 'nth degree.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I have run the gamut of emotions, high and low and have emerged hopefully stronger and possibly wiser.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I have stopped baying at the moon about the stupidity of people. having snarled at one too many shoppers who thought that it was fine to lean on me as they reached to pick an item off the shelf, I no longer go into any shop. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">There is a notice on my door telling all delivery persons to ring the bell/bang on the door and step well away. I have chewed the ear off a postman who wanted to hand me my parcels and made a formal complaint the second time.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I have nothing but praise for the various people who deliver my Asda grocery order and am thankful that we have a marvellous meat supplier who delivers and follows the correct procedures. The local free range egg supplier has set up contactless collection and is on my regular dog walk route. I am thinking about getting rid of my car and carrying on for the forseeable future as i do not miss shopping one little bit.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I have got over the uncomfortable/embarrassing fact that I</span><span style="font-size: large;"> am enjoying lockdown. My time is filled with whatever I fancy doing whenever I wish to do it.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">The only downside is not seeing family in the flesh, video calls and zoom sessions are good but nothing like the real thing. Having said that there are many families that are scattered across the world and rarely or never meet in person. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Michael has plans for the good weather, both for house and garden, so much so that he has decided not to take on any work for at least 2 years, if ever. We are enjoying working as a close team and want it to continue.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">At the beginning of December I looked long and hard at my crafting supplies. I will not be buying anything for this year, with the exception of mask making materials. I am still churning those out, just at a slower rate.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">I joined an online knitting community, yarn n yarns based in Penarth, South Wales, and am taking part in the "12 cast ons of Christmas", This is helping me work through the yarn stash, gathering patterns, yarn and ( making more project bags) matching up what I have is theraputic. Some of the projects are reasonabley medium term but a few were quick makes and as I have emptied a bag of its finished item I have cast on another to take its place. In this way I hope to run the stash right down. There are also 2 projects ongoing to work through any leftovers. I have just finished the second scrappy Flax Light in sock yarn and have a dk crochet blanket on the go. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">The sewing is nowhere near as productive as it is based in the dining room. I prefer to be in the living room with Michael so that we can chat as we work on our various things. Once the warmer and drier weather arrives this will change. We will spend more time outside working together and time indoors will be separate, he with his planned projects and me sewing.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">The garden has vegetables in it still and 3 beds are filled with garlic and summer onions. The polytunnel has my flower planters in it but they will be moved out ready for lots of edibles. The greenhouse has some brassicas (thriving out of the wind) ready for harvesting and these will be replaced with tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers in due course.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">There are 3 new blueberry plants that will provide a small harvest this year, my established bushes fruited really well last year, so lots of purple porridge is in my future. The fruit trees all look healthy and we will be building a cage over the Jostaberry and Black Elderberry. That of course is "the royal we" I will be making coffee and cookies as my contribution. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">All that seems to be a bit smug and self satisfied but it has required, and will continue to do so, planning and some hard work. It was no easy task to dig out and make a level area for the tunnel on our sloping garden.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Herbie is thriving, thankfully he has stopped growing, and loves having Revi and Poppy during the week, a no contact handover takes place at each end of the day and their owner is as careful as us on a daily basis.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">I think that I am all caught up now and I plan on being here a few times a week now, when I have something worth sharing. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">My thanks to anyone who is still there and my hopes that you are all heathy and well.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">T</span><span style="font-size: large;">ake care.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"> TTFN Pam</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p>Pamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18406981075860636289noreply@blogger.com23tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2541083431029092303.post-84291722573660809222020-10-04T20:27:00.001+01:002020-10-04T20:27:35.748+01:00Wet Wet Wet<p> H<span style="font-size: medium;">ey Ho, if it did not rain what would we have to talk about? when we can meet and talk that is.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I have to say that I am making the most of both the weather and the lockdown.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfqvxRj9qs3r997Ja1_98xtdtNAkChxzTateVcXmRoMiLrd5AUM0sLD4rX1SdR-mg8iIytiWWWso49-QF2qaHreMqOt803mIxH18tEzfcwn_H97Tkwbaa185KLSs_d8sFAAK8EvgRGA6Q/s2048/DSCF0004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfqvxRj9qs3r997Ja1_98xtdtNAkChxzTateVcXmRoMiLrd5AUM0sLD4rX1SdR-mg8iIytiWWWso49-QF2qaHreMqOt803mIxH18tEzfcwn_H97Tkwbaa185KLSs_d8sFAAK8EvgRGA6Q/s320/DSCF0004.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;">These are the first of a family of 4, the pattern is the pumpkin beanie on ravelry.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;">I added the leaf, I crocheted it from an old pattern.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;">Once the other 2 are finished they will be gifted and then my sister would like one.</span></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf4nx6GXZUWTkT2IBC4Xw0tLkwPHQFPoVMaEdHwd1MPTd0guIzafesWVj6_3bH2wORrmiLO1a5yWYFyL2pE1E3TKsA4ODb-IQ2AVL_u_z-Fmbo3nbC6sZiAqF9PfFKMZ_wxICIOWhnObc/s2048/DSCF0003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf4nx6GXZUWTkT2IBC4Xw0tLkwPHQFPoVMaEdHwd1MPTd0guIzafesWVj6_3bH2wORrmiLO1a5yWYFyL2pE1E3TKsA4ODb-IQ2AVL_u_z-Fmbo3nbC6sZiAqF9PfFKMZ_wxICIOWhnObc/s320/DSCF0003.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;">This yarn has been lingering for ages in my stash, I had 4 skeins and have knitted several pairs of socks. Anyhow, the larger one was tucked on a shelf and left, this afternoon one of my neighbours called me as I was walking past and asked if I could make a coat for his dog. I have met the dog and knew instantly that the large coat would fit him. It was perfect so I have gained a smidgeon more space and Kofi has a new coat. win win.</span></div><div>I also have a favor to call in if I need to. Barter is alive and well.</div><div><br /></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">I aim on finishing the hats and those socks this week and I have a Penny sweater, a Tin Can Knits pattern, to sew up under the sleeves and weave the ends in.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">Then I will pick 2 from the WIP shelf, AKA the shelf of reproachful looks, to work on this month, as well as Francesca,s sweater. I am itching to cast on more socks but am trying to ignore it. I would love to finish 4 WIPs before my Christmas Eve cast on, I dare not even look at patterns for that yet. I might well come down with a bad case of castonitis.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">The sewing room is in a slight state of chaos, I have a new freezer coming and that is the only room with space for it. Everything has been shunted around to make space and once it is in Michael will be measuring up for a new shelf. Or three. As I have lost that floor space.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">That willl be a nice surprise when he reads it. hehe.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">It,s a good job he likes a project.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">There is a "new" Michael Palin program on TV tonight, I think that it is basically covering his former programs but I will be having a look. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">Now I think it is time for a glass of something red and fruity.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">Keep safe.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"> TTFN Pam</span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><p></p></div>Pamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18406981075860636289noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2541083431029092303.post-55048842213221140192020-10-03T21:50:00.000+01:002020-10-03T21:50:20.063+01:00So much for Autumn colour.<p> <span style="font-size: medium;">I am sure that in parts of the world, at least north of the equator, there has been enough dry cold air to start the leaves turning to burnished bronze and amber. Just not here, too wet, too warm and too much wind.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"> Even my blueberries just shed their leaves while still green, it has been wet, windy and not really cold. The wind and odd storm have moved lots of the leaves into heaps that are slowly mouldering away.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Many plants that should still be in flower have been shredded by the wind and rain, not to mention the odd hailstorm.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">In need of some colour I turned to my knitting, Fran's new sweater is richly coloured and I am knitting Christmas socks in seasonal colours.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Then I had some moments that were pure serendipitous. I was watching the Sheep and Cheerful podcast and Nikki was knitting a pumpkin hat in glorious orange. I found the pattern and in a moment it was paid for, downloaded and printed. There is also a Kal going on that I need to finish some WIPs and get posted for.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Then I watched the first Vlogmas from Ange at Yarn N Yarns and she is doing the same, an Autumn make and a Thank Goodness it's finished make.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I don't usually take part in Kals as I tend to lose track and forget to take photos.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">This time though I will be joining in, I have a pile of WIPs to finish up, most do n ot need very much work, and I have some gift knitting to do.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I went straight on to Ange,s shop and bought yarn for the hats, well for the girls ones, I will knit Mum and Dads from stash yarn. Bless her she packaged up the order yesterday and it arrived this morning. I had already cast on Dad's hat and finished it before bedtime. such a quick knit. because the yarn arrived this morning I have knit one of the girls hats, I decided to crochet a leaf and attach to each hat. Just because.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">These will be gifted as soon as they are finished, I may make a small pumpkin and attach to the girls hats, it depends on how much yarn I have left.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The street is much quieter now that the local lock down is in place, I took Herbie out a short while ago and only saw 2 cars. There are still people inviting visitors into their homes against the new measures, one can only suppose they have a death wish.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">We have been going through each room, emptying cupboards and sorting the contents out. Some furniture has been moved and every nook and cranny has been cleaned. Today Michael emptied the welsh dresser and cleaned the inside, disposed of some rubbish that had secreted itself away and refilled the rest tidily.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">We decided to sit down fairly early, yippee I had my hat to knit, and had a stroll down memory lane and watched the first 2 Ghostbusters movies. Herbie got very excited a few times and ran round like a hamster in a wheel.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I am now tucked up in bed with one of the sock WIPs and Herbie is on the bottom of the bed snoring. I plan on catching up with a few podcasts.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">All in all It has been a good day, even if the garden is a mix of green, colourless dying leaves and mud. There is plenty of colour indoors.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Keep safe.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"> TTFN Pam</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"> PS, starting the day with purple porridge is great. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p>Pamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18406981075860636289noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2541083431029092303.post-51048183002760520612020-10-01T13:55:00.000+01:002020-10-01T13:55:24.965+01:00keeping my eye on the ball.<p> <span style="font-size: medium;">It's been a funny few days here. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">With the news that the Royal Glamorgan hospital is taking no new admissions due to an ongoing Covid situation. The extra work load will be divided btween other units including our local Morriston hospital. I am resigned to the fact that my cataracts will be with me into the next year.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Michael has had a letter asking him to arrange both an Xray and a video call regarding further work on the thumb that he almost severed. He has managed with it as is for the last 3 1/2 months. He should have had this Xray at the end of July and has no inclination to go anywhere near a hospital right now. So he has declined the invitation.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Our neighbour,S, who owns Revi and Poppy was at work on the family farm, last weekend, with his teenage nephew is on red alert. Yesterday his sister rang him to say that her sone was home from school on the direction of the track and trace system. he had been in contact with someone who tested positive for C-19. They are now trying to assertain when the contact occured and whether S has to be tested and/or quarantine. Thankfully we have a system in place where we transfer the dogs with no close contact. This was a "just in case" decision and I am so pleased that we made that call.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">My friend has finished her treatment so the Bichons will not be here for a month now, then she will have a checkup appointment. as before we have a hand over with no close contact.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">It was easy to arrange in both cases, it isn't rocket science, it isn't even like picking up a dropped stitch in a lace pattern.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">We have a new to me veg box scheme in Pontardawe, Frosty's will deliver to our village. they will make a mixed box with fruit or 2 separate ones from £10 to £whatever. They also offer a range of pantry staples, whole foods and vegan supplies and are very accommodating. Yes they are dearer than the supermarkets. Yes they have a smaller choice, you will not have 30 types of lettuce to chose from, but that can be a bonus. We will be trying them out soon, I have a fridge full of fruit and veg to eat through first.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The news is still full of whinging people but there are some truly inspiring people out there as well. Those who have weighed up the situation, thought about it and altered their routines to be able to help their neighbours. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The writing was on the wall in plenty of time for all to get prepared, in fact it has been on the simmer from the beginning. The warning has been there for all to see and hear that the winter would bring an upsurge of cases. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I am still amazed that anybody thought that opening up the Universities was a good idea. Hundreds and thousands of young people are now in virtual house arrest, having paid fees and accommodation costs and getting much less in return than they expected or deserved. At the same time those who are bleating about wanting to return home need to stop. Look in the mirror and ask if they really want to potentially take a killer into the family home.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Once again. It isn't rocket science. If they haven't got it before they start for home it is highly likely that they will be in contact with it before they arrive. Pessimist. Too right I am. We will not be in contact with anybody for a long time, we do not want to put ourselves ir anyone else at risk.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Apart from all that we are well, the dogs had a good 2 hours walk this morning and are happily slumped across the sofas sleeping it off.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Keep safe.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"> TTFN Pam</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">PS. I am sure that i started this with something particular to say but have run off piste. At leaast I didn't have the soapbox out to fall off.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p>Pamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18406981075860636289noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2541083431029092303.post-35336089177181008042020-09-28T09:52:00.002+01:002020-09-28T11:00:25.689+01:00Too much talk in the wrong direction.<p> D<span style="font-size: medium;">avid Attenborough is a familiar face on our screens and has been for decades. His new book and program strike to the heart of the consumer society.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">He tells us to use less, waste nothing and the subtext is buy organic.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">This morning when he was featured on the Beeb there was a shot of battery chickens in the background.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Factory farming started to provide cheaper food for our ever increasing population. As a "baby boomer" I, my generation and susequent ones are to blame.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">That was the time to get up and speak about the effect this would have on the planet. It was just not on the agenda at that time.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">It is very easy to be wise after the event. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The longer the event goes on the harder it becomes to reverse, never mind stop.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I guestimate here. I think that up to 75% of the worlds population live either in the poverty gap or a smidgeon above it.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">These people waste nothing. They do n</span><span style="font-size: large;">ot consume vast amounts of power.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"> They do not fill their cars (they simply don't have the money) with Kilos of food and then bin a large percentage at the end of the week.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">They do not buy clothes and household goods on a regular basis just to consign them to landfill when the fashion changes. In fact they probably shop second hand when they absolutely have to, thus helping the environment.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">In MY opinion most, if not all, of the rhetoric needs to be directed at the (roughly) 25% of the worlds population who have the money to throw around. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The "jet set" with air travel, the fashionistas with revolving wardrobe doors, the shoppers who buy ever increasing volumes of everything from food to cosmetics and jettison it just to make room for more. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">These are the people who should be targeted, after all if you cannot afford a leopardskin coat you are not responsible for the reduced population. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Equally if you cannot afford to buy organic free range food to feed your family you have to buy the cheaper alternative. You are not responsible for factory farming.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I am off the soap box now, but will keep it handy.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Keep safe.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"> TTFN Pam</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I just wanted to add that I did not mention the middle ground. All of us who may or may not be rich but have the means and the ability to stretch our money wisely. We already waste nothing, make do and mend and repurpose as much as possible. Some of us are firmly in the perceived poverty belt, although you would never know it, and some of are in the wealthy belt but do not flaunt or waste it. I know that it is wrong to generalise but there is not enough room here to be specific. Gosh, that sounds like a cop out. Sorry, but I had a strong reaction to being preached at by someone who has never had to make do or go without and would probably not recognise the Benefit Trap if he fell in it. I do still admire him, he is a stand alone man, head and shoulders above many others of his ilk.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p>Pamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18406981075860636289noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2541083431029092303.post-34168985437082711562020-09-27T11:40:00.000+01:002020-09-27T11:40:54.335+01:00Still busy<p> <span style="font-size: medium;">It has been a few days.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"> I didn't plan it but got stuck into getting the house and garden ready for winter.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">We decided to have a change round upstairs and leapt, laughing foolishly, down the rabbit hole of decorating. Our bedroom has had a clean sweep and looks much better for it. Just changing a few things around has opened up the space and makes it seem larger.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The bathroom did not escape, no painting but changing round the storage, and adding a unit has pulled it together. All my cleaning and laundry supplies are now in the one space, easy to check for gaps when it comes to my online shopping.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The landing is next on the list and one wall that has some scuffs and scrapes will be cosying up with paint and brush later this morning.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">BTW I am up at stupid o'clock after a hectic day, much lifting, moving and walking back and forth. That without the dog walking, and of course Herbie not only wanted an extra one but also wanted to walk further each time. I 'fess up that the last one saw me in onesie, boots and long coat after a lovely long shower.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Never mind dust bunnies, I think they were giant man eatering rabbits from outer space, and I do clean regularly. Thankfully there wasn't a spider or web to be seen (tempting fate here)</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Michael, while sitting and slurping coffee, said in all innocence "we will do Francescas room next week.". This while I was still scuttling around with boxes and armsfull of things that were heading for their allocated places.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">There may have been a red haze with overtones of blue for a few seconds.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">However we have settled on putting the living room into winter mode. That means moving the sofas, I have one under the window in front of the radiater all summer, moving my craft lamp into place and making room for The Tree.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I also make the time to go through my yarn stash. this year I have already done that. I wanted to get all my fingering weight in one place. (I am able to knit socks for most of next year,) blushing madly. There is also a box of various yarn that has Fran's name on it. 2 sweater quantities and several skeins of fingering weight.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The string quilt blocks are all made, I just have the last batch to trim. The wadding and backing are ready for pinning once the top is assembled.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I did not make my quilt deadline but a lot has happened in the interim. The new restrictions have meant that we have a group of 6 set in place and that does not include the planned recipient.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">We have our neighbour, for the dogs sake he has to be included. Then there is my friend, she still has many more treatment sessions to go through, The last 2 are the couple that Michael has been working for. He is still popping back and forth and will be doing that for some time yet. They have a brand new granddaughter so we are all being meticulous about procedures. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The local lock downs have moved closer to us with Cardiff and Llanelli affected. I think that Swansea will soon follow and that is very close as the crow flies.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"> I see that some of the supermarkets are seting out buying restrictions, it is a good thing that lessons were learnt, perhaps there will not be the empty shelves of a few months ago.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The only item that I have not seen return is wholemeal bread flour, another thing that I now buy online. My favourite loose leaf tea has vanished from the Asda website so that will be something else to search for, not till next year though as I have plenty in stock.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Speaking of tea, my cup is empty but there is more in the pot, better drink it before it gets cold.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Keep safe.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"> TTFN Pam</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p>Pamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18406981075860636289noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2541083431029092303.post-19615704366644825182020-09-22T11:51:00.000+01:002020-09-22T11:51:33.853+01:00And Breathe<p> <span style="font-size: medium;">Thank you for your comments on my last post. We got the good news last night that the test had a neg</span><span style="font-size: large;">ative result.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">As Fancesc</span><span style="font-size: large;">a is very sensible she is being even more careful than ever.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Many of you mentioned that people are being less than prudent in their reactions, attitude and the way they go about their lives. I can only think that our education system has failed miserably. If people holding down responsible careers and jobs are unable to behave responsibly in their personal lives and are not able to understand basic rules then there is little hope for the future.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I see that school bus drivers are concerned about the numbers of passengers, who as well as being close together are not required to wear masks. Surely the safety of the staff is down to the employer. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Have these people not heard of "Due Diligence" or even better "Corporate Manslaughter".</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">More to the point, what are the parents saying?</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">We seem to have become a world solely concerned with "the bottom line" and ever increasing profit margins.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Perhaps if we were not such a throwaway society it might be different.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I am not sure whether the words "not yet recycled" or the lack of any guidance on packaging is more annoying. There has been plenty of time for all packaging to be made recycable. Sir David Attenborough has been banging on about it ofr what seems like decades. HRH The Prince of Wales has ruffled many a set of corporate feathers over the years and even Hugh Fearlessly-eatsitall( no offence intended) has been seen on national television promoting the cause.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The thing is that unless each and every one of us makes a noise nothing will improve in the near future.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Now I have put the soap box away.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Keep safe and beware the idiots among us.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"> TTFN Pam </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p>Pamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18406981075860636289noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2541083431029092303.post-77287248331079607782020-09-20T06:49:00.000+01:002020-09-20T06:49:40.004+01:00Nail biting times<p> <span style="font-size: medium;">We are on tenterhooks at the moment. Francesca should be here this weekend but she is now in self imposed quarantine.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The person, S, that she houseshares with gets a lift into work with a colleague. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">This person has not been into work since last Monday.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Only on Friday did S see fit to tell Francesca that her colleague was suspected of having C-19 and was waiting for test results. Apparently she has been too busy to remember to share the information.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">As it happens Francesca,s car had a warning light come on and had to be checked on Friday afternoon so her visit to us was postponed till that evening.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Luckily Fran and S had set up a strict cleaning routine for shared parts of the house, kitchen and bathroom in particular are cleaned after each use.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">If the test proves positive the Track and Trace system will be applied and both Fran and S will be tested, along with countless others no doubt.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">If I could have got near to S on Friday I can not imagine what I may have said and done to her. She is in her 40's, a criminal lawyer and should know better than that. Her employers need to be dealt with as they carried on as usual knowing the situation.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Is there any wonder that we are looking at a spike which could well be worse than the first wave. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">How many more working people are doing just the same.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The " It won't happen to me" mentality ia alive and well and living all over the world. Governments need to stop the pussy footing about and act. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Never mind the air travel industry, the sandwich shops, beauty salons and pubs and clubs etc. Let common sense prevail and concentrate on prevention. it has always been better than cure.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Keep safe.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Beware of the idiots.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"> TTFN Pam</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p>Pamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18406981075860636289noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2541083431029092303.post-2617163015705261682020-09-17T14:32:00.001+01:002020-09-17T14:32:33.548+01:00Keeping busy preparing for the season.<p> <span style="font-size: medium;">I had some happy post.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">It was very Orange.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Can you guess?</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2-z2YhpVH75QeoIVb_zZlpslYq5Gz4ZRKAcqJdOHd8ycQUu0T-loPO206roSk5jvy2l2pK7Ww89PKWcFeScyqIczxf6PAwUJk-KqG063wrJAdGlZ_hFfjI845BD4zEchzEVqYGF7xsTw/s2048/DSCF0010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2-z2YhpVH75QeoIVb_zZlpslYq5Gz4ZRKAcqJdOHd8ycQUu0T-loPO206roSk5jvy2l2pK7Ww89PKWcFeScyqIczxf6PAwUJk-KqG063wrJAdGlZ_hFfjI845BD4zEchzEVqYGF7xsTw/s320/DSCF0010.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;">there were two of these.</span></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJXDM9zsG9uObBAhs-lnWs5zTRHTCFnxAT7Q9wKPxKTZtrV70rFkfgiuT-I46DXSPiU1oUOxjaRWSy_wx6MLlP-qnrXF1IYVRO7oyf4lfJaldi8kHVjrGjuR49VfDtThPGkqTYWTHiEPU/s2048/DSCF0011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJXDM9zsG9uObBAhs-lnWs5zTRHTCFnxAT7Q9wKPxKTZtrV70rFkfgiuT-I46DXSPiU1oUOxjaRWSy_wx6MLlP-qnrXF1IYVRO7oyf4lfJaldi8kHVjrGjuR49VfDtThPGkqTYWTHiEPU/s320/DSCF0011.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;">Christmas yarn. That way I know that I have enough of what I want and can start to use it whenever I am ready. 3 pairs of socks were finished a while ago and I cast on a new pair a couple of days ago. WYS have brought out a new colourway, Silent Night. It is a wonderful deep blue with some white in it, I did not buy any as I would not be able to se to knit it.</span><p></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Foolish mistake.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">It will be for next years knitting.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Do I want to tempt fate and buy some?</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Probably</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Do I want to chance never seeing it again?</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Not really.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I will wait a couple of weeks.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">If I can.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I have my colour coded storage and have been filling it. I took a photo and the 'puter ate it and laughed at me. I will try again.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Michael is on the last couple of days of his marathon job. He designed and built a custom summer house with overhanging clear roof and large deck. There are stable doors, a swinging seat, railings and a self closing gate to keep the grands safe.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">He is under orders that he is working at home for a while as there is a backlog of jobs here. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">I have a wood work project tucked up my sleeve in case he gets sawdust withdrawal symptoms. He loves working with timber.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">A few years ago we dug out and moved the slabs in the little courtyard area just outside the kitchen door. They were tispy and tilted here there and everywhere, they were used on the enlarged patio and we laid pebbles down in the yard.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Now that Revi and Herbie scoot around they are more trouble than a little and have to go. </span><span style="font-size: large;">We will be using them in a different place in the garden. We will be laying concrete and embedding some cobbles, possibly. The jury is out. Whatever we do there will be no loose stones to be kicked into the windows.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I have made a batch of Elderberry Syrup and will be picking Hawthorns for syrup at the weekend. I thought about Rosehip but decided to give it a miss this year. I might pick some and freeze incase I change my mind after they have been frosted. There is a bumper crop of sloes but I wil not be picking them this year and I have not touched the blackberries either. Michael hates the pips and we have jelly from last year. I have them in porage but a bumper crop of blueberries in squirreled away already.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I am all set for the autumn and winter, cupboards full and The Shop in the Sewing Room is well stocked. I have tucked far too much easybake yeast away as last year my sister and Francesca could not get it for love nor money. Our village shop found a supply, a bit pricey, and we had no worries.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I have fabric and threads, yarn, fleece to prepare and fibre for spinning. I have handspun for my peg loom and all is well in my world.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">If I get my cataract/s done in decent time I have cross stitch in the cupboard, I do want to order some silks and linen fabric as I have an embroidery book calling me to step right in. The words "I have nothing to do" and "I'm bored" will have no place here, that's for sure.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Lets hope that I do not have to eat my words.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Do they still make alphabet spaghetti?</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">BTW I knew the answer to the Million Pound Question, I did not watch the program but it was on the news a million times! Possibly more.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Keep safe.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"> TTFN Pam</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p><br /></p>Pamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18406981075860636289noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2541083431029092303.post-44139757259417042962020-09-15T18:51:00.000+01:002020-09-15T18:51:10.066+01:00Blonde senior moment?<p> <span style="font-size: medium;">This blasted new blogger is giving me the heebie jeebies. I cannot seem to publish comments. I have clicked on the tick mark but then nothing.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I got them published on earlier posts.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">It's no wonder my hair is white, it's a miracle that I have not pulled it all out (and Michaels).</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Any how I will cool down and try again......later.....after copious amounts of tea......and a calming dog walk.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">And possibly chocolate.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">We have had a couple of showers this afternoon but it is still warm and muggy, not the weather for physical work.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">So, I decided to empty out under the bed and winnow through it. Result, a large portion of the things have now been divided into, donate, recycle, upcycle and bin. I feel better for seeing the dust bunnies (soon to be evacuated). In fact it made me feel so good that I cast my eagle (blurry) eyes upon my wardrobes.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The donate pile grew and a few things found their way into the recycle bin. Once I stop wearing my summery things then I will be going through those also.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I have sorted out colour coded storage for the scrap fabrics and that is tomorrows task. Providing that the Bichons do not insist on helping.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">There is never a dull moment with the dogs around, Revi very kindly brought me some carrots that she had managed to get to. The only issue was that she also ate them, tops and all and lolled around looking extremely pleased with herself with almost a Cheshire cat grin over her face.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">We had a short interlude with a video call from Francesca, a walk with the dogs and then it was time to get dinner on the go. Sweet and sour pork with rice, a hint or two of chilli and some pineapple. That's the way we like it, full of peppers, carrot ribbons and red onion.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Now I think that I am going to knit for a while before clearing the kitchen and putting my feet up till the last walk of the day with Herbie.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Keep safe.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"> TTFN Pam</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p>Pamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18406981075860636289noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2541083431029092303.post-33527769890403152182020-09-14T09:11:00.000+01:002020-09-14T09:11:03.530+01:00Knives at the ready<p> <span style="font-size: medium;">I am watching Breakfast TV and one of the Millibands has joined in the general sttack on Boris and his Brexit dealings.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Cameron, Major, Blair and May have come out of the shadows to denigrate what the cabinet is doing. I seem to remember that none of these were covered in glory both during and after their time in No. 10.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">In my mind it was Cameron who was the leading force behind the referendum to exit and then when it became too hot in the kitchen he beat a hasty exit stage left.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">As for Blair, I have heard it said many times that he was just too shiny, and that was so any close looks were reflected back rather than penetrating the veneer to show the reality underneath.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Major was lampooned as the only "boy" to run away from the circus to become a stuffed shirt.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">May, could have made a real difference, just as Maggie did, but failed miserably as she did not appear to have any scrap of authority.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I am not a political animal, I choose to regard them all as self interested, self serving oblivious to real life. I know that there are some who really want to serve their electorate, but fear that The Party Line does not allow that.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">There has been scandal in the House of Lords with people turning up for a few minutes and claiming full attendance payment. They are meant to be the top layer in the hierarchy of government. But they have shown themselves to be greedy pigs only interested in getting their snouts in the trough.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The leader of the opposition is "famous" for letting Jimmy Saville go free to continue his reign of abuse for many years. He seems to be keeping his head below the parapet at the moment, goodness only knows what he is cooking up now.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Boris is regarded as a clown in some circles, at least he appears to be a normal person who acknowledges their faults and weaknesses. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">As somebody once said:-</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">There are lies, damned lies and politics.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Nothing to chose between them.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Thank goodness for crafters and makers who carry on regardless of the crazyness around them.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I will be setting off soon to have my eye test, on the way I want to get some sanding pads (Michael is planning on sanding the stairs), small bottles for my Elderberry syrup ( this will be in some gift baskets) and some storage baskets (I am emulating Lori Holts scrap fabric control system).</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">All of these can be had in one place </span><span style="font-size: large;">and we have masks and disposable gloves. I am taking no risks, I am concerned enough at the thought of being in a confined space for my test.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Keep safe.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"> TTFN Pam</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p>Pamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18406981075860636289noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2541083431029092303.post-52951466983256689492020-09-13T16:34:00.001+01:002020-09-13T16:34:52.961+01:00All sorted now<p> <span style="font-size: medium;">I hope that I have not awoken the gremlins with that title.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The Janome has had another clean, a new needle and she is purring like the cat that got the mouse and the cream.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">We have been having a general sort out round the house, I have hauled all my winter tights and leggings out from their summer residence. The scarves, hats and gloves have been checked over and my shawls have come out of hibernation.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Michael has had all the walking shoes and boots outside for a good clean and polish, I need to replace a pair of sturdy hiking shoes, after many years of hard work, so will be looking to do that by the end of the month.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Woolly jumpers and cardigans have had a shake out and put back into circulation and a few lone ranger socks have been reunited with their respective partners.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">If that doesn't bring us an Indian Summer I don't know what will.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">We were chatting along this morning and I said that the scrap mountain was wearing me down. Right away Michael said that he would take over the crumb boxes and make a quilt.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">The nature of his work means that he slows down over the winter and a project to look forward to is ideal. I feel as though a weight has been lifted and am now happy to continue throwing tiny bits into said boxes. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">I don't think that he realises just how much there is to work through but he has worked on large quilts before and enjoys it as much as I do.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Dinner is in the oven, we are having roast pork. I have all the veg prepped and apple sauce is made. I used up some small apples for it, I quartered them with the peel on, removed the cores and steamed them till soft and then pushed the pulp through a sieve. The resulting sauce is very smooth but I couln't face peeling tiny apples. I will be trying a different method next week as i want to bottle some.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">The dogs have loved extra long walks over the weekend, the weather has been glorious. Usually by this time they would be ready for their food but instead they are flat out snoring one against the other.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Oops, should not have said that, Revi has just got up, turned round and sprawled herself over the other two.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">I am off to the kitchen before she decides that my lap needs her.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Keep safe.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"> TTFN </span> <span style="font-size: medium;"> Pam</span></p><p> </p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"> </span></p><p><br /></p>Pamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18406981075860636289noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2541083431029092303.post-1952462466745149132020-09-12T08:35:00.000+01:002020-09-12T08:35:18.360+01:00Purr purr Clunk. Oh dear.<p> <span style="font-size: medium;">That was yesterday morning.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I was sewing strips onto the next batch of squares and the machine protested.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I stopped, obviously, and took the offending fabric out. removed bobbin and case, unthreaded and gave it a defluff and brush down. Still clunky but not as bad. I just turned it off and walked away, time was pressing and I did not want to do half a job.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Later today I will repeat and replace the needle as well. I would love to book it in for a service and mot but that means getting into the middle of Swansea. My eyes will not allow me to make that journey, driving into Swansea is not on my radar for a long time. I do not like the trip, I get lost in the one way system every time I do it. It's fine getting in, it's the way out that confuses me.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">As far as I know that is the nearest place where I can get the machine seen to, there was a place in Carmarthen but I think they have gone out of business. Other than that it is Cardiff and wild horses would not get me driving there, even if my eyes were 100%. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I will have to ask around, when I am in Neath on Monday I will go to the market, there are 2 stalls, one that sells fabric and another that do alterations and make curtains, hopefully one of them will be able to help.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I have cleared the table and will get the little Singer out if I have to, it just means that i will be traipsing back and forth to do the pressing. Although I plan on making a big batch of masks in the next few days and that is easy enough to do in the kitchen.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I am not too concered about keeping to schedule on the blocks, I have 120 made and more cut ready to sew so a couple of days off will not hurt.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I still have to make my mind up on the layout, it could be straight rows although I was considering a central square, to cover the middle of the bed,set on point with straight rows filling out to the size that I want. I will probably have a trial layout session next week.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I have Revi and Poppy over the weekend, my neighbour is working on jobs that are not suitable to have them with him. I don't mind and Herbie was overjoyed when they turned up this morning.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Now I need to get ready to take them out for a walk. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I have put my order in to Asda for next week, I am not going shopping unless it is essential at the moment. From monday Wales have made it mandatory to wear masks in shops, and not before time, I have the masks but not the inkling to go out there.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Keep safe.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"> TTFN Pam</span></p>Pamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18406981075860636289noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2541083431029092303.post-50182367719627039962020-09-10T09:46:00.000+01:002020-09-10T09:46:55.804+01:00New Blogger Format. <p><span style="font-size: medium;">What's it all about Blogger?</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Was there a good reason for the change?</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Why not just iron out the wrinkles in the original.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I am not adverse to change, as long as there is good reason for it. Change for changes sake suggests to me that somebody/somebodies are justifying their position on the workforce.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I have seen it many times in my working life, an office nearly always has too many staff for the workload generated. They have a nice settled relationship so the thinking caps go on and paperwork is issued, new systems are introduced etc. The staus quo remains intact.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Enough of this.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">What I dropped in for was to let you know that I am on target. 80 blocks sewn and cut to size, 20 more with the first 3 strips attached.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I have even tidied the desk top before getting stuck in to the next round of sewing. That will be later in the day as I have the Bichons from 11:30, their mum has her first treatment session today. My thought</span><span style="font-size: large;">s will be with her, I know how scared she is and wish that I could travel with her but that is not possible.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">I caught a glimpse of Boris scuttling along the pavement sans mask on the news this</span><span style="font-size: large;"> </span><span style="font-size: large;">morning. Apparently Joe public cannot understand the rule of 6 or the wearing of masks in public. I wonder why.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">I am happy that the rain has dried up for a spell, I want to get into the garden later, 5 dogs stuck indoors is a recipe for madness and mayhem. They have a plethora of outdoor toys to race around with and "chase me round the apple trees" is a popular game. I sit on the patio and cheer them on over my current sock knitting.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Revi has just thrown all the cushions off the other sofa and has squeezed herself next to me. She may be big but she is still a puppy, with all the need for close contact that all puppies have at times.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">The clock is ticking and I have a few chores to attend to before I go to get the Bichons.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">Keep safe.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"> TTFN Pam</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;">PS You may have gathered that I am not a fan of the new style blogger. I expect that it will grow on me. Which is more than I can say for the new Ravelry.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></p>Pamhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18406981075860636289noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2541083431029092303.post-19374985643216647872020-09-09T13:30:00.000+01:002020-09-09T13:30:16.023+01:00It's all about the orange<span style="font-size: large;">The postie just brought me a parcel. Yum, just love parcels, at least the soft squishy sort.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgD71Ie-mvJ-iVPjjQxAWWlr77azKsp7gAhTtEO_mgNdB1wQfmWsKDcv7minfg1W1KQYeBBHwG7-ULvIXKhGZxnJ7GJ3mUwGN7xehAUH35Oi2kB44nv-ek9obiFqkwWu-GD0rlnT1fjMW0/s1600/DSCF0003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgD71Ie-mvJ-iVPjjQxAWWlr77azKsp7gAhTtEO_mgNdB1wQfmWsKDcv7minfg1W1KQYeBBHwG7-ULvIXKhGZxnJ7GJ3mUwGN7xehAUH35Oi2kB44nv-ek9obiFqkwWu-GD0rlnT1fjMW0/s320/DSCF0003.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Oh Yes! Thats Orange.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwvJ4DqbrNsliyelbcJFEgVvua_wxdRy3FXynfPzWkAiJ3UyEqGH32A8PJP0vYk_vHrIWhYjnMkI7KfQHCEqduoqo82BgA8iqvLCcrAl-M58rqo1RG9VKyNwGu3uT6veO4F2zQASnvx_4/s1600/DSCF0004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwvJ4DqbrNsliyelbcJFEgVvua_wxdRy3FXynfPzWkAiJ3UyEqGH32A8PJP0vYk_vHrIWhYjnMkI7KfQHCEqduoqo82BgA8iqvLCcrAl-M58rqo1RG9VKyNwGu3uT6veO4F2zQASnvx_4/s320/DSCF0004.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">So is that.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7Ae5MkgCQ8nkrqA1Z4acXJnkd0Dxqh3NVP0MrQQQOHdne2nwjmodTgO1TVk7mqaU2oDkcTxVo9jSI6mHCr16do_W9x6hCp9ZPUFHlmvQuWRwdDpYyQKbwdv5zk0-tYbofda7EbXQ7qpc/s1600/DSCF0005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7Ae5MkgCQ8nkrqA1Z4acXJnkd0Dxqh3NVP0MrQQQOHdne2nwjmodTgO1TVk7mqaU2oDkcTxVo9jSI6mHCr16do_W9x6hCp9ZPUFHlmvQuWRwdDpYyQKbwdv5zk0-tYbofda7EbXQ7qpc/s320/DSCF0005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Sadly not these.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">But they are for mans socks.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Michael would wear orange.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The other 2 would not.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The wonderful thing about these, not ignoring the fact that I will get 3 pairs out of the 2 balls, is that they come from a New online shop. Yarn n yarns, the same name as the podcast.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The lovely Ange opened her yarn shop in Penarth and I was lucky enough to get a lift ther ages ago. I had hoped for a return trip but things happen.......People make plans and the gods laugh.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Since then the lease ran out on the shop and rather than curl up in a corner Ange opened a virtual shop. https://yarn-n-yarns.com/</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">the stock is not huge, but she plans to expand once she has "tested the waters".</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I will be back to shop regularly. You all know that I like a bargain, I hate paying for postage, and keep an eagle eye open for a bargain.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">For some time most of my yarn purchases have been from Wool Warehouse. I have always made my order up to free postage level. In all honesty I will probably do so in the future, but not the so very near future.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I have several projects lined up, patterns, needles, yarn and note book with a pen in my own bags.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">In truth I possibly have more sock yarn than Angela does. Well very nearly.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">But as I always have socks on the needles, and as I love to support a good business I will be buying a couple of 100gm balls every few weeks. There are a few peeps in my life who now only wear handknitted socks. My fault, when Michael,s sock drawers (3) were crammed full I <strike>nagged</strike> persuaded the others to let me knit them a pair, Ha little did they know that it was never going to stop at A pair. My brother in law is diabetic and his feet are so much better for wearing wool that he gets at least 4 pairs a year. That doesn't sound many but I started him off with a dozen.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">On a different note I have had to ammend my plans for dealing with my block trimmings. I was thinking of making a crumb quilt or cushion covers. However, now that I have trimmed lots I realise that I was so mean with cutting the strings that the trimmings are miniscule. Too small to sew, they will become the stuffing for toys for Herbie and co. Still no waste.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I was going to waffle on about my aims to have as near no waste as possible with this quilt. I was also going to expand on how I am trying to expand this into other areas. Then the parcel turned up and the tide turned. Another day, perhaps.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Keep safe.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<span style="font-size: large;">Michael was pottering around after being rained off work so the tea was flowing freely.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">At end of play I had 44 blocks completed and cut to size with another 6 ready to trim.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">It wasn't until I settled down in my bed that I remembered The Parcel. Oops.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">I count myself very lucky to have received such a plethora of goodies. The stitchmarkers will be put into use this week as I have a new cast on planned, there may be lots of pattern repeats t</span><span style="font-size: large;">o mark.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Last but not least the 6 blocks that need trimming to size.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Tut Tut, you may think, those were sewn yesterday.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Aha, I think. (there may be a song in there)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">What you do not know, because I haven't told you, is that I spent an age this morning emptying a scrap box. It was one with several large pieces, and I have pressed the lot. I have also cut the lot into strips (and triangles for the corners) There was very little waste, so little that I weighed it and it came to the grand total of 22 grams.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I can live with that. The trimmings from the completed blocks are living in a bag and will become a crumb quilt/cushion covers. I can not throw them out, even any selvedges are cut as narrow as possible and become ties round bundles and gifts. I have made long skinny strips into boot laces, my current ones are bright orange.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">We had roast beef on Sunday and there is quite a bit left. That is going through the mincer and will be cottage pie for dinner tonight. There is enough to make one for my neighbour Steve. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I make it as a one dish wonder and fill it with vegetables as well as meat. A dash of horseradish in the base and a handful (or so) of cheese on the top means more taste with less washing up. Win win.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Now I think it is time that I got back to my sewing. BTW I took the time to clear the desk top and put all the strings into same width groups. That should help it to run smoothly, it had got into a real rats nest.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Inspite of the fact that I made these,</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil5TZectyMJNh80aRrHMCaU9c9Btm1t84iCFGMsMbhsIrKa85CeBieSHAMVt0J4RZX3KnzOnpklLHELZiSYK9SkHGT_19WzhkS0YyrMU7G9qbz87-tQ5HRYJAoIwa9E-fLmXIs2mKQQ-Q/s1600/DSCF0008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil5TZectyMJNh80aRrHMCaU9c9Btm1t84iCFGMsMbhsIrKa85CeBieSHAMVt0J4RZX3KnzOnpklLHELZiSYK9SkHGT_19WzhkS0YyrMU7G9qbz87-tQ5HRYJAoIwa9E-fLmXIs2mKQQ-Q/s320/DSCF0008.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Curtains for my base units, better than boring doors, made from some of the countless charms that I had dug out.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOJMLdCeFzNHdkdjnLReglJiQfVyxhr2gFmIZHXb0VMPVlUDqhDF_l1QK-0BfUlKrkXZ6OFMegYmsTmD8fUBMPgK6P3VyhpxltOXoTgLobZ3_LVX9BlPKrTGS95sON4LnSvt563MgX02A/s1600/DSCF0007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOJMLdCeFzNHdkdjnLReglJiQfVyxhr2gFmIZHXb0VMPVlUDqhDF_l1QK-0BfUlKrkXZ6OFMegYmsTmD8fUBMPgK6P3VyhpxltOXoTgLobZ3_LVX9BlPKrTGS95sON4LnSvt563MgX02A/s320/DSCF0007.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">And these, curtains for the top units, made with strips (and a few cut down charms) that were found in a tangled mess.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">A bit more interesting for eye level than squares.</span></div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I still have 5 of these</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">A few random baskets</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">And some plastic boxes that are stashed upstairs full of scraps.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I was grazing round You tube a few days ago and spotted Lori Holt,s name. Well I have some of her books and some carefully hoarded fabric so I had a little look.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">She has started a stash busting series of tutorials and the second one was String blocks. I have only made one quilt from those so it was time to put on my Big Girls Knicky Knacky Knoos.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Out came the boxes and one by one they were tipped out and all strips removed.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Then there was a massive pressing session, and all dark colours were removed for another day.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">A few larger bits were pressed just in case I can use them.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">This is the current state of my desk top.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2KpzLtNMjiqJ60qu1fIBc7fPpxBPC87bomW87A1WyGtU86NsThenjPnv70Nb71ZAIsYraElhp4pWTVTOOIpt9IjQcZcWkC1lpGSZ51tmtu9lK4Uj9UEAnrLa60XVIX9qEp8PTFCuGfFk/s1600/DSCF0006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2KpzLtNMjiqJ60qu1fIBc7fPpxBPC87bomW87A1WyGtU86NsThenjPnv70Nb71ZAIsYraElhp4pWTVTOOIpt9IjQcZcWkC1lpGSZ51tmtu9lK4Uj9UEAnrLa60XVIX9qEp8PTFCuGfFk/s320/DSCF0006.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">This is what is emerging from the chaos.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">These blocks will finish at 7" and I will need 168 ish for the quilt that is living in my head.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I would like to finish this in 3 weeks, gulp, yes 3 weeks. I have run up 25 of these today and have another 10 started. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">It is a very simple job, not as much pressing as some blocks and no points to worry about and no seam matching. Best of all No Sliver Trimming. I have a 7 1/2" template for fussy cutting and it is a quick job, with my rotating cutting mat, to whizz round with a rotary cutter.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I will finish the 10 started blocks after dinner and I have the sew in interfacing all cut into squares. I plan on making at least 20 a day so feel that 3 weeks is an achievable target.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I have the wadding and backing fabric and will make the binding from any left over strips, if there are not enough I will just cut some to match the backing.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">This is to be a Birthday gift, and although I have plenty of time, it will soon be That Time. I have a long list to get through hence my 3 week deadline.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Wish me luck.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I have been saving a parcel unwrapping and was planning on doing it this weekend. Unfortunately it did not happen so tomorrow I will unveil the giveaway that I won from Crafty in the Med. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Francesca has bought a car and should have collected it yesterday morning. The dealership slipped up with the MOT check so it was put off till tomorrow. hopefully we will now see her in 2 weeks time.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Provided that we are not in lockdown or one of us is ill. Fingers crossed.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Now it is time that I put myself into cooking mode and got in the kitchen. That beef will not cook itself.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Keep safe.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;">I have been tired for a few days and have slowed down to a crawl. I am getting to bed earlier and waking later.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Any tasks that have to be done are spaced out with rest periods betwen. Today I did some gardening and watched 2 old movies and got some sock knitting in.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I made fish pie with carrots and calabrese for dinner and pegged some washing out. Far less than I would ordinarily do on a Saturday but I am pleased.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I am just a bit frustrated at getting less done but at the same time I am listening to my body and giving it what it is asking for.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">My new blueberry bushes are in the ground and doing well, they are well established plants so there may be a few fruits next year. That reminds me that I need to pick any ripe fruit off the older ones tomorrow, Purple Porage for breakfast.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">My friend starts her treatment next Thursday for 15 days, Monday to Friday. I will be looking after the Bichons and keeping a close eye on her.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">This will be short and sweet as my eyes are heavy and I think that the sandman was here a few minutes ago.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">My hand is fully recovered so knitting is going well and I hope to be spinning tomorrow.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Keep safe.</span><br />

Michael keeps himself occupied for most of the day and i am being extremely lazy for a couple of days.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">It was not planned and I don't much like it BUT needs must and all that.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Somehow I have hurt my left hand and am unable to knit, crochet or spin without pain, sooooooooooo I let common sense prevail and am resting it. I am slathering plenty of hand salve on it and hope that the massaging will help. It is certainly easier today but I will rest it for another day and see.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">We have a little rain today, not enough to write home about, so the dogs are emulating me and a bit more. They have spent most of the day lolling on the sofa in a pile, it looks as though they are playing twister in their sleep. I daresay they will make up for it tomorrow.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I took some masks to a neighbour this afternoon, we met while dog walking yesterday and she asked if I was still making them. I had a small pile so dropped a few off, of course we had a chat and she had unearthed a tin of buttons that she passed on to me. Then she lent me her late mum,s knitting pattern file to have a look through. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">It was a trip down memory lane, not so much the actual patterns although I do have some of them in my collection, but the styles and the stitched patterns used.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I could see my Mum knitting away and producing very similar garments. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I have the Pinch of Nom cook book and one of our go to dishes is Dirty Cajun Rice, sounds awful but is delicious. I was going to make it tonight but got sidetracked while digging in the freezer.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I emerged triumphant with half a pack of pork sausage and half a pack of smoked bacon. I did not fancy rice with those so after speaking with Michael we made a descision.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Tonights dinner has been dubbed " perky porky pasta". I will use much the same spices and vegetables but will leave out the mushrooms and use courgettes and sweetcorn. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I have cleaned the Singer sewing machine, after all the patchwork it needed it. A drop or 3 of oil and a new needle and she is ready for the next project. When the dogs are here I use her rather than my big Janome as she goes on the kitchen table. 3 dogs in the sewing room is a big fat no.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I have moved stuff around to create my "corner shop" and some of it at just the right level for a Labrador tail to swipe it over. Never mind a mad Jug who things he can fly and launches himself in to the air at the drop of a hat.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Never a dull moment here.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I have been watching far too much telly, but it is YouTube and very informative.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I like factual programs, building, engineering and so on, love some of the car programs but not all. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I stumbled upon the Fouch family from Idaho, pretty amazing stuff. They not only built their house but practically made it from their property. Just about every bit of timber was felled, milled and finished by Nick, the husband, and helped along the way by Esther his wife. He also designed the house and built an amazing spiral staircase with wonderful metal handrails.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I am slowly going through the back catalogue and enjoying every moment, watching their homestead grow and picking up a few tips along the way.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">They no longer make videos but am sure that their lives are brimming full as the children grow and the homestead develops.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Now the clock tells me that I ought to get some of dinner preppped and that the dogs will soon be starving and after their food.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Keep safe.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">She also stated that the aircrew were doing nothing to rectify the situation . </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Needless to say some of these passengers have now tested positive for C-19.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Considering the style of Tui advertising I should be surprised. I am not.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The world seems to be populated by 2 types of people now, the Covidaware and the Covidiots.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I am drawing a line under this with the hope that the second type hurry up and die off before they infect the first type.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">---------------------------------------------------------------------------------</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I had a good day in the garden yesterday, the tunnel is not only up it is stocked with pots and newly sown planters. A mini greenhouse is on the way, this will live at the end wall and hold tender plants and start off seeds.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">My garlic and shallots have been ordered along with some onion sets. I have not used sets for several years but decided that I have enough seed to grow without onion added to the list.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The beds for these will be cleared and prepared in good time and a catch crop of sparkle radish will go in.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">This afternoon I have some bulbs to plant and blueberry bushes to go in, I prepared the soil yesterday but ran out of time and steam.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I have the compost bins to empty, any identifiable stuff will go back in one and the other can start being filled again.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I have the promise of some well rotted manure in a couple of weeks and that will possibly have to be stacked for a while. I have an out of the way area that is partially ready for planting and the soil is pretty poor. Once I am ready the manure and some of my compost can go on that as thickly as possible and will be perfect for greedy squashes next year.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">As well as the seed sowing and allium plantings I am looking forward to putting the garden to bed for the winter. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">My mind is full of indoor crafting projects and my fingers are itching to get cracking.They will need a good soak in my hand balm first though, even wearing gloves has not stopped the damage completely, they are quite dry and scratchy.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">The time has come to get off my btm and get back outside, lunch has been eaten, tea has been drunk and time is passing.</span><br />

One person was concerned that the uni's would become treatment centers for sick students.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">It's a bit late in the day to open that can of worms.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">These issues should have been addressed much sooner, after all this is the 8th month of C-19. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I am ready for a winter outbreak, my "corner shop" is well stocked. It's in the corner of the craft room and extra to my pantry. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">No, I have not been emptying the shelves!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">No, I do not regard myself as greedy.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">And No, I am not bragging.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Each week I have bought a few extra items. Food stuff, toiletries, laundry and cleaning supplies.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">By the beginning of November I aim to only need fresh foods for </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">5-6 months. I have always kept a well stocked house and this year have just pushed that by a little. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">If we do have a surge then I will not need a weekly delivery, so I will be able to cancel alternate weeks freeing that spot for somebody else.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Equally if the weather is really nasty I will not need to worry, and will be in a position to help another household out.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I was snowed in for a week, many years ago, and fed 3 other houses till the roads were opened.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">We had a little shopping trip this morning, Michael needed an orbital sander. His had been worked well beyond it,s use by and was all but dead.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I also picked up a Lidl £1.50 fruit and veg box, it was a bargain. asparagus (omelette with some Stilton tomorrow), grapes, bananas, plums, tomatoes, lettuce and carrots.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I estimate that 90% of shoppers were not wearing face covers and were huddled in groups rather than standing back and waiting for a moment.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">We were in and out in record time and back home for a late breakfast, bacon baguette with brown sauce. swoon.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Now we are off outside, with Herbie as foreman, to do a bit more in the garden.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-size: large;">Was it a plane?</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Was it Pam on skates?</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">No.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">It was half the plants from the nearby gardens being whirled around by the latest storm.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">One of my friends said that she was washing up and saw the runner beans, complete with netting fly over the back garden and land on the shed.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">The worst part was that it was their next door neighbours shed. They had not had a single bean off them, next year it will be dwarf beans. For me also.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">My garden has suffered and I will be adding to the compost at the weekend. I cannot do anything like that when the dogs are here and all 5 have been here today again.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">My friend starts her treatment in 2 weeks but has to have it over a longer period as her heart is not functioning well enough. she will be on blood thinning meds for some time if not forever.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I have been busy with my spindle and hope to finish all my dyed fleece this week, I just want to dye some blue and red and that should give me enough colours. I was tempted to warp my loom up but knew that I would start weaving.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Michael has made me some great drop spindles and I have got fibre on one of them so far, there will be another in use later. They spin far better than the ones that I bought.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">My frying and saute pans needed replacing, they have had a long and hard working life. The cost of replacing them is prohibitive so I have bought a set of cast iron ones. Not those posh orange or red coated ones that cost their weight in gold. These are plain black and will need seasoning before I use them. The glory is that once ready to use they will not need washing up, scraped of any detritus and then cleaned with a soft cloth (paper towel will do but not in this house) they will live on the hob or in the oven. If I am totally happy with them a dutch oven and a roasting dish may well join them.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I have to buy replacement lids for my mason jars, so far they are a wicked price. I will be doing some research, it may well pay me to import some from the US. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I have no idea why preserving supplies are so expensive now. I used to have stacks of kilner jars, I still have some, but over the years I worked longer and bottling went out of the window. Now I have the time and not the money, well not that I want to part with to that extent.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I may bite the bullet ( I seem to be doing that a fair bit) and import a pressure canner at the same time. When I had the pub near Mildenhall I could have got one of my customers to bring me one from the USAF base there. But of course I had no time to use one then, far too busy "slinging hash" for them.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Anyhow, I have to empty one of the smaller apple trees and process the fruit tomorrow, they are ripe. It is an early eater but the fruit is tart enough this early to make wonderful apple sauce. The next one to ripen is better for apple butter, wonderful with peanut butter, or in a pie, or off a spoon.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I also find that buying many things in bulk here to be difficult if not impossible. When you do find them the delivery costs are massive unless you spend a very large amount. Of course no one supplier sells everything on the list so it is a non starter. There are a couple of shops in Swansea where I can get dried pulses in 2Kg bags but there is no way that I would venture there at this time.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Next year I want to grow black beans as they seem to rarer than rocking horse manure here. I can get them in tins from 1 supermarket but they take up so much room. I do buy them at odd times but far prefer to soak and cook the dried ones.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Oh dear, this has turned into a moany pity party.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Not really soap box material, but I feel better for getting it off my chest.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Dinner is in the oven, a tray of veggies and sausages, another of Charlotte potatoes. There is a dish of fresh made apple sauce and a jar of preserved cranberry sauce to go with it. So looking forward to having fresh cranberries again.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I really fancied biscuits and gravy but went for the healthy option. Once it gets colder I will be making biscuits again.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Now I have to get a wiggle on, I want to get the apples picked and washed tonight so I can start prepping them first thing in the morning.</span><br />

What am I doing? Spring Cleaning, of course.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">My Granny and Mum always gave the house a good fettling at this time of the year.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Their thinking was that if you do it in the spring the flies are all over it in summer and you have to do it in autumn anyway.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">That is a tongue in cheek view as we did spring clean, the early March sun is low in the sky and pokes its rays into all the corners, nooks and crannies. No cobweb is left in the dark.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">In fact as I remember we seemed to clean constantly, it was a big house with large rooms and high ceilings. The doors and windows were open almost constantly and dust was seen flying through the house when the land was being worked.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Monday was the big wash day and all the beds were stripped and left to "air" for most of the day. If it was school holidays it was my job to go behind the beds and clean the skirting boards and then polish the brass bedsteads. It was a rule that the parts you couldn't see had to be as clean as the ones on view.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">"A stranger to a dwile" was the worst thing my Granny would say about anyone. A dwile is a cleaning cloth in Norfolk, usually a part of an old sheet or towel that had been hemmed and repurposed for another life.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I remember being in the village shop and someone gossiping about a local girl who had "got herself in trouble" (I had no idea what she meant) and running her down. My Granny tapped her on the shoulder and told her that only the good girls get caught as the bad ones know better, then she told her to look in her own home.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Off track again.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Anyway, I was chatting to my sister earlier and she told me that she was spring cleaning today as well. It's in our blood, and we did learn it, rather as children learn their times tables, through frequent</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">repetition.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">So I just have the paintwork in the hall to do today and it's Kitchen and Pantry tomorrow. I will take the chance to make an inventory of cupboards and shelves while I am moving things to clean.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I am that 1950' housewife. I was there. I lived the dream. (nightmare when the sun was shining and I wanted to be outside)</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
