Just a quick visit to update and let you know that I am still breathing.
The family are still here, but not for too much longer, all is calm in the house.
I, however, have been the opposite of calm.
I had a traumatic episode and am still ploughing through it.
From out of nowhere I had a slip/trip/stumble and hit the deck, face first, like a sack of coal.
The results were a glorious array of bruises, broken teeth, gum damage and some long drawn out surgery to put it all right. Not back as it was as there is too much damage.
I managed to do some serious work to my right knee as well so I have been doing a good impression of Hopalong Cassidy.
Eating is child's play, nursery food, soups and pureed everything.
Talking is difficult, peace and quiet abounds, and generous servings of antibiotics, painkillers and anti inflammatory pills are the order of the day.
The sole ray of sunshine is that I can knit. The socks are flying off the needles as I do not have to think and can go round and round even with a head full of painkiller fog. The toe up, 2 at a time with the Fleegle heel recipe is embedded in my brain. There will be a plethora of soft and squishy parcels in gaudy, glittery wrapping paper later this year.
Fran has 3 new pairs already and the SO has 4 pairs that have not been on his feet yet. A first as they normally drop onto the table once the ends are woven in and then fly on to his feet.
I am dangerously close to running out of 4 ply yarn, so close that I am knitting DK weight socks for Fran to wear around the house.
There is the bag of left overs, but scrappy socks require too much attention for me at the moment.
Enough of this wallowing, I am going to indulge in some blog reading before my next pill ration.
I hope that you are all keeping well and are enjoying the respite from the heat wave.
TTFN Pam
Good to see you back even though you are several peculiar colours! Look after yourself and enjoy the opportunity to knit.
ReplyDeleteOh, no, what a horrible thing to happen. A very nasty fall. I'm glad things are improving a bit but not that it is going to take such a long time. :-(
ReplyDeleteOh no, poor you. My sister fell in her garden hitting her head on a wall. She still has no idea how that happened either.
ReplyDeleteIt was good to hear from you Pam. I was so sorry that you have had a fall and do hope you are getting better. (I am sorry I cannot write to much I have had a stroke and written no it difficult, but I am getting a lot better). I was pleased that at lease you can still knit, I have been so lucky that I can crochet so much what would we do without our hobbies. Please look after yourself and hope the pain will get it better soon.

I hope you feel better soon, it is all to easy to fall, and to fall flat as you have done and healing is a long process. I am glad you have knitting socks to pass your time, I'm sending deep wishes you are feeling less depressed as quick as possible. Maybe it's time for an online order of 4ply, can't have you running out.
ReplyDeletePam, I wish I could run (well, perhaps safely walk!) round and give you a big gentle hug! When you have a houseful of guests, an accident like that is the last thing you want to happen. I expect (hope) you're being taken good care of though. I hope you feel much better very soon, and that none of the damage is long lasting.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, what a horrible thing to happen. Best wishes to you and I hope the knitting is providing some comfort.
ReplyDeleteCor, you don't do things by halves, do you? That is a lot of damage, no wonder you were gone for so long.
ReplyDeleteYou are obviously feeling a bit better to do this post in your humourous way and I expect the SO and Fran had a hand in that (you getting better not the post I hasten to add).
Well, all I can say is take care, get yourself 'fighting' fit and no more stunt dives. Ok?
OMG!How terrible. At least you didn’t break any bones.I fell out of our conservatory down a step a couple of months ago.No real damage done.I was lucky.I don’t know how it happened is the frightening thing.I do hope you feel better soon.Things in your mouth always seem really painful.Keep us updated and keep knitting!!

ReplyDeleteOn no,, This is awful. Good for you to keep knitting. I don’t think I would concentrate well if I was in pain. Hope all the pills keep you comfortable. Rest and recover is all you can do.
ReplyDeleteOh no! I know it’s frustrating but please take the time to recover.
ReplyDeleteCarol

ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you have had a rough time Pam, I was wondering how you were the other day.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear this Pam, I hope your recovery does not take too long. I wondered where you were had missed your previous post for some reason, although I have had issues with DB myself, so probably not concentrating too well.
ReplyDeleteOuch! Take more water with it! On line shopping is great for wool.

ReplyDeleteHaven't checked in on you for a long time, Pam. So sorry to hear about your fall and hope you're all better soon. It's times like this that knitting and other needlecrafts are life savers. Thinking of you and wishing you a speedy recovery xx
ReplyDeleteOh what a bummer for you. I hope it all heals eventually. Take care and don't try to overdo it the minute you feel a little better.
ReplyDeleteI do hope your recovery goes well. Slipping and falling at any age can be downright dangerous.
ReplyDeleteTake care of yourself.
God bless.
(Gentle hug) and good wishes for a good recovery. Sounds very nasty.
ReplyDeleteI understand the brain fog only too well ... it hovers over me all too often with the med regime here!
Oh heck - what a horrible sounding accident.
ReplyDeleteHope you heal soon before you run out of wool
Oh Pam I'm so sorry to hear about your nasty fall and the resulting injuries. Hopefully the visiting family are doing all they can to ease your days, although I would imagine they have their own issues to deal with at the moment. I'm sure SO is hovering, trying to be as helpful as he can. Hope the healing process isn't too long in duration and that you can get back to a fairly decent normal soon. Sending you love and hugs from afar.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your fall and injuries-hoping for swift healing and recovery.
ReplyDeleteThe fall sounds really dreadful, especially the teeth. I'm so sorry.I hope your visiting family is taking care of you. Good recovery wishes.
ReplyDeleteCrikey, that's awful. So sorry to read this, I hope you have a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteOh Pam-what a time you have had. I was about to send you a PM today when the post popped up. Glad you have managed some knitting as I know you hate to be idle. Best wishes for a continuing recovery and hope you are being well looked after. Careful hugs are being sent.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you had a mishap and hurt yourself so much. Big hugs!
ReplyDeleteWishing you swift healing and tasty soft foods in the meantime.
Hope you are on the mend. Had a fall last month and luckily didn't break anything but my knees are still swollen.
ReplyDeleteFor your sock yard scraps, have a look on Ravelry, some lovely patterns for scrappy blankets that are knitted in sections.
Oh dear, that's awful, hope you are mending well and not in too much pain.
ReplyDeleteWhat on earth would we do without our knitting to keep us sane ! Please check out a utube podcast Fibre Friends, 3 Canadian knitters who are hilarious and entertaining with all their yarn creativity. ...easy to watch as you knit.
As we get older we stop using our balancing muscles, they become weak and just let us down unexpectedly, the cause of a lot of sudden falls.
Oh Pam, I'm so sorry for your accident. Take your meds on time and do what you can. Wishing you a speedy and healing recovery.
ReplyDeletewhat on earth?!? yowser.. your update has made me wince.. wishing you the best of recoveries!
ReplyDeleteOh my, that was a nasty fall. Take as much time as you need to recover. knitting is such a life saver from boredom. When you have run people to knit socks for may I suggest using up the scraps for a lap blanket for yourself or for an elderly neihbour for the winter time.

Ouch, ouch, ouch, so sorry to hear of your horrendous fall and injuries. Hope the house guests are looking after you.
ReplyDeleteGlad the knitting is giving you comfort and joy, hopefully your husband is going to supply you with some more dyed fingering soon ... he might like to try some self striping ;-)
Best wishes for a continued and speedy recovery.
So glad to hear from you, have missed you.
ReplyDeleteDo take care Pam falls can be so damaging and painful. Good you can knit when Herbie lets you ha. Alfie a bit calmer now but challenging to train him on the lead.He also likes our clothes! ragging a pillow case and Colin's socks. Thinking of you and get well soon xx

Gentle hugs-x-
It's been a while, a long while. Oh my goodness, I am so sorry to hear that you fell and did so much damage. I sure hope your face and all the bruises heal quickly. I feel so bad for you. Falls are scary and I've had a few lately. Nothing as bad as yours though. Enjoy your knitting. You can never have too many socks. Love, Henny
ReplyDeleteHope you are beginning to feel better Pam.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, relieved to read that you are getting better - your knitting will help. Sending you care and many thoughts of healing and wellness, Michelle (in Wellington, NZ)
ReplyDeleteGoodness gracious that sounds like some fall. I managed to step off of the second step of a step stool (of course losing my balance on landing on the ground) and then falling against the corner edge of the cabinet. Resulting in a fractured rib and a punctured lung. What fun! Almost back to normal now after a month but still have some uncomfortable feelings when moving a certain way.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for good competent medical care-----it sure gives one comfort to go to the hospital where they know how to fix this kind of stuff and treat you so kindly in the bargain.
Hope you will be feeling better and are back in the game soon.
What a horrible thing to happen to you, Pam. I'm so sorry to hear that you are in pain. I wish you a very speedy recovery xx
ReplyDeleteHow awful! Sorry to hear about your fall....sounds pretty bad but I hope you are o the mend now.
