What a difference a day makes.

After 2 glorious warm days, both looking like this at first light,

this morning looked much more like February.

But no matter the weather, I still love the view from my front door and have a long look at the start of every day.

My roses are hanging on in there,

I will replace them later in the week, as soon as the first petals drop.

The Alien is still looking good, standing proud in the window.

I told you that Dawn very kindly gave me some Seville oranges, and that I bought some fruit from Abergwilli. I also had some mandarins that were full of pips, reluctant to part with their skins and sour enough to "draw your a**e up to your elbows" as my Granny would have said. I made a batch of orange marmalade and then cooked grapefruit and the mandarins and turned them in to another batch of preserves.

Yesterday morning I had to go to Swansea, while there I popped into Hobbycraft, I had found a piece of yellow fabric for the stash and had a look for their half price fat quarters, there are a couple of bare spots in the stash.

This is the yellow, a bit brighter in the flesh and most welcome.

I found this bundle for £7, it is more aqua than blue and fills a gap in the stash, I am pleased with that. I do not buy much from Hobby craft as I find them pricey.

The Muscle has been busy in my garden, I now have some staging in the greenhouse and some weeds have been eradicated.

In return there has been more sewing,

He has made 2 fully lined bags, and look at the boxed corners.

I think that the next lesson will contain a zip, maybe a pocket on a bag or perhaps a zippered pouch.

While shopping yesterday I slipped into M & S and found these for Maggie, they are her favourite biscuit. I delivered them this afternoon along with a jar of each marmalade.

If you look at the comments on the previous post, you will see some from Notes from home, pop over and say hello. Kim is a very talented crafter, I started following her ages ago and for one reason and another she slipped of the radar. I am slowly catching up with what I missed and enjoying the journey.

It is now time for me to get in the kitchen and "sling hash" or I will rumble so loud that some of you may hear me.

  1. I must have bought my fruit from the same provider, they were dry. Has Muscles booked for the next quilt show because the way he's going he'll be ready. I think it's wonderful, husband, Dad, gardener, diy fixer and a sewer to boot what more would you want in a man :) the bags look great.

  2. I love your fabric, the yellow is very zingy. Aqua shades are always my favourite. It's funny the weather has been lovely up here for the last few days, my Mum has had grey skies and fog. Well done on the preserve making..

    1. I like home made anything but marmalade is up there with strawberry jam and raspberry jelly. I add it to cakes and put it in stir fries and sometimes a spoonful slips into my mouth when I am not looking.

  3. Your marmalade looks delicious, I've only ever made jam as I'm the only one in the family who enjoys a bit of marmalade on toast, maybe it's time to spoil myself.

I could do with a Mr Muscles here, a man who can command a sewing machine as well as a spade and fork, what more could a girl want?

    1. I love marmalade, sometimes it goes from jar to spoon to mouth. I have tried the most expensive but it does not compare to homemade.

  4. Lovely fabric!! The preserves look lovely, mine are in all different sized jars, I think I need to smarten them up a bit so I can give them as gifts.

    1. I bought my jars in 2011 from the jam jar co. they were on offer. I bought a box of lids as well and have about 24 of each left, so will be ordering more soon.

    1. I was so pleased with my fat quarters that I ordered some more online. My Granny had a lot of sayings, some of them quite blunt.

  6. Hi Pam,

I'm behind with reading your lovely posts. The quilting frame looks intriguing. As always,I like things "squared away" so,

    A) who is "muscles" !?

    B) even more intriguing, what is "slinging hash"?!

You put me to shame with your packed days,I'm 57 and do a fraction of what you achieve.I would love to have you as s neighbour. My house is in a courtyard style,20 houses.People are friendly but some work, some keep to themselves.

    Best wishes,

    Ann

    1. Mr Muscles lives in the village, he is quite shy. Slinging hash is what one of my American friends calls making a meal. My nearest neighbour is very reclusive but most of them are friendly. Most of them work but we still manage to speak most days.

  7. It seems like we've had similar weather, it's been lovely while it lasted but back to grey again now. The marmalade looks delicious, that's something I've never made myself.

    1. I would sooner give up chocolate than marmalade. It was grey and misty again today.

  8. I have deep longing to 'go home to Wales'...... one day... just one day I may pluck up the courage and head back that way. In fact if ever Tony were to lose his job the house would be on the market the same day and I would be trawling all the property in Wales' websites
