Sunshine up a mountain

I went off to see Dawn, Doing it for ourselves in Wales. this morning and had barely walked in the door when Bovey Belle arrived. It is good to put a face to a name and see if the image in your mind is close to reality. I was not far out, I imagined her a little taller, goodness knows why, but I was spot on with the amount of energy that positively crackles about her. There was a batch of Peach and Blueberry Muffins in her hand ,mmmmmmm, I can assure you that one went down very well with a cuppa. Joy of joys she also had a box of plants in the car for us to share. I am going to have to find the right spot for a rampant spreading rose and an Aquilegia.

We had a walk round and looked at the newly sheared Alpaccas, they have such long slender necks, it is a good job that their heads are so neat, and boy are they pretty.

Dawn and Hubby have done an amazing amount of work in such a short time. The poly tunnel is well on the way to being full and the raised veg beds are looking very fecund, even the new Asparagus looks well established. Must be all that Alpacca poo,  I am so pleased that I brought some home with me. Dawn tells me that it seems to act as a slug repellent as well, I will be keeping a good look out.

On a previous visit Dawn gave me some Oca's to plant, all have grown well and I thought you might like to see what pretty plants they make.

The leaves remind me of shamrock, but I am looking forward to tasting the tubers.

These white bells have popped up here and there, and very pretty they are.

The Lupins were a gift and they are doing well, you can see the flower bud in this one.

These were a also a gift last year, from my next door but one neighbour, his garden is very well kept and his plants well looked after. In contrast this is my view every time that I go to my garden.

I have some posts and trellis panels to get up to screen it.

My pots of Duke of York and Sharpes Express are growing well.

I have several Aquilgias growing around the place, this one has pink on the tight buds but they open out white, I aim to collect seed and hope that it comes true.

I managed to find 2 pink fabrics at Dawn's and picked up a few more from Cross Hands, Hilary had a big bag of scraps for me as well. I will share them once they are pressed, I have not taken them out of my bag yet.
My first priorities were walking Ben and tea, lots of it.

Oh yes, the blog title, well the sun did shine and I was up a mountain.

    1. I think that plants have their own timescale and will hang back or gallop ahead to stick to it. I still have lots of jobs to do and more plans for next year, there is always something else that I must have.

  3. Hi Pam

Glad you have had a good day and been able to put a face to a name at long last. I have know BB for years on the internet although we have never met. A lovely lady with a heart of gold. I have recently become a member of Dawn's blog too. I am glad you have some friends and that you are getting to play and socialise. Take care

  4. Sounds as though you had a great day!!! Isn't it amazing how "free" plants always seem to grow so well, I think that it is because they prefer to be given than sold! All of yours look as though they are doing very well! xx

    1. Many of my new garden plants are gifts, mostly from my new neighbours. I am happy with how my garden is coming along, I would just like another week of sunshine to get the last bed finished off.

  5. It is amazing all the work and progress Dawn and her husband have made in such a short time. Not to mention all the work you have done yourself in your lovely garden. What a shame your neighbour has no desire to look after their own property-they should live in an apartment then they wouldn't have any outside work. Love to keep up with everything you do.

    1. My neighbour had grand plans to begin with, the overgrown trees were to be removed or pruned back and a veggy garden planted. He started removing the overgrown branches from the Holly and the tree behind it. Threw them in a heap, went indoors and has not set foot in the garden since. I barely see him and he does not speak to anybody, if I see rats I will contact the council but so far there are no signs, perhaps the local cat population is keeping them away.

  6. My lupins are very lazy this year! They are teeny compared to yours. I hope they do come through because they are a gorgeous deep blue colour!

    1. I look forward to seeing what colour mine are, the plants were grown from seed collected from another garden. Several of us have a few plants from the same home, we may have a rainbow or we may all have the same.

  7. Morning Pam. It was lovely to meet YOU yesterday too (and Dawn, who has a truly great set-up on her smallholding) and I am glad you enjoyed the Muffins (I love an excuse to bake) and the plants. I have so many potted up and I love to give gifts.

I really should grow some Lupins from seed again as I have a cottage garden style garden and they fit in well. I bought some gorgeous ones last year but think they may have foundered over the winter.

I hope your garden is as prolific as you want it to be - I shall have to visit and bring my camera!, and you and Dawn visit me here too.
