The sewing room is ready for my quilting frame, I had a light bulb moment and have the perfect spot for it. It has meant that I have a stack of boxes upstairs "to be gone through". It also meant that I found a few things that I had forgotten about, not the first time.
My thoughts then turned to the glorious weather and looking at my pepper plant decided to concentrate on the great outdoors, well just my garden really, and went shopping.
First a little visit to Wilkinsons.
As you can see these are priced at £4, I paid £1 for the lot, the bulbs will go straight into the ground tomorrow. They will not do much this year but should put on a good show in the future, and I can use the pots and compost for something else.
This Victoria Plum is a sturdy little tree and will be going into the garden next week, if nothing else I will have the blossom and maybe some of the fruit, depending on the local birds. I am not expecting too much of it until next year, and it was all of £7.
I do intend to get some Rocket first early seed next week but these little packs of 8 seeds were 99p each in Home Bargains, I have grown them all before and they are very tasty.
I was only talking about Gooseberries yesterday so was very pleased to find these at £4 the pair, I had the same varieties at Tydd and they will make large, very productive bushes. I can take cuttings later on and grow some more If I want.
All in all I am very pleased with my purchases, I need to get some more black pots for potatoes, I aim to grow them on the patio and keep my beds free for other things. I would set main crop varieties in the garden but they are so reasonable to buy that I have not grown them for years. The exception was Nadine, one of my favourites that were few and far between in the Tydd area, but they are grown here so I do not need to try and squeeze some in.
Ben has decided that he does not like his food now, yesterday he reluctantly ate late and today he has turned up his nose again. When he is hungry he will eat, I am not going to angst about it today......
he just sloped off and I can hear him eating.
My frame comes tomorrow (fingers crossed) so I may not be with you until Monday. I will be taking pics and hope to get some fabric in place on it.
Until then
TTFN Pam
Great bargains there Pam, good selection.
ReplyDeleteI had a good day, so pleased to find the exact variety of gooseberry that I wanted.
DeleteHi Pa it all sounds very exciting look forward to seeing the reveal, You have managed to get some lovely bargains there. Out of curiosity how do you take cuttings from a Gooseberry bush to start new plants. Would you be able to do a tutorial at some point? Missy our Jack Russell gets finicky with her food too - and as you say when they get hungry they go and get stuck in. Loved your bracelet the other day really beautiful. Take care Pattypan xx
ReplyDeleteI will do a tutorial as I take the cuttings, have a look on U tube there are bound to be some videos. Ben emptied his dish and polished it.
DeleteLovely purchases, my gooseberry bush has not yet given me fruit, this will be it's third year. My cat Grace often refuses to eat her food, like you I leave it until she is hungry. Have fun with your frame
ReplyDeleteYou should get fruit this year, gooseberries do not fruit on new growth.
DeletePam you did so well. I have not even thought about the garden yet. But looking at what you have brought maybe I should.
ReplyDeleteRosezeeta.
I want to be ready once the weather is right, I still have to get my Rocket seed potatoes. I looked in B & Q this morning and they want £6 for 3 packs with 4 seeds in.
DeleteI let my garden go fallow last year and did not grow a single thng bar some tomatoes and chillis in tubs. I'm getting a bit itchy to start planning myself. I'm fancying easy crops this year, spuds, beetroot and broccolli. Can't wait to see this frame!
ReplyDeleteI will be growing Sprouting broccoli ready for the early spring next year, I love it and pound for pound it is up there with Fillet steak, plus when it hits the shops it is too old.
DeleteSome great finds for the garden Pam. I have to say I was impressed with the picture of your peppers. We never have any luck with peppers, our plants just don't grow any fruit. I like the look of your plum tree, I think this year we are going to look for a dwarf apple tree ( budget permitting).
ReplyDeleteNow is the time to get your tree, you do not need to pay out for a dwarf tree, if you grow in a big pot with John Innes compost it will not get huge. Or you can plant in the ground and prune to the size that you want. Look on the web for Geoff Hamilton's Lolly pop apple tree, it is a great way to train a tree.
DeleteWhen I see everybody buying plants and things it really makes me wish I had a garden. Maybe when we move next time. Have fun with your new crafty toy, Pam. Love Helen xx
ReplyDeleteI love my garden and would not like to be without a little space.
DeleteWell I really look forward to you showing photos of your plants, fruit and veg when they're in fruit or blossoming. Mr B has planted seed potatoes in tubs at the van garden since our first year, it's surprising how many you can harvest from a tub. We've dined on salad goodies, the pepper plant was a disappointment but the courgettes were in abundance. I may copy you if you don't mind and try a plum tree in a pot even if it's just for the blossom. I'm hoping to harvest our lavender bushes this year to make lavender ornaments.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your adventures with Gracie, I can see a lot of adventures being written about, I hope it arrived when promised.
Have fun
Peg xx
I have my frame all laid out in the sewing room, once all the chores are done it will be tackled.
ReplyDeleteI love pottering in the garden and there is not much that beats new potatoes fresh from garden fork to table fork in 30 minutes, unless it is sweetcorn from garden to tables in 10 minutes.
