The first day of the New Year is almost gone, it started here warm and windy, progressed to dark, drizzly and windier and now is whipped up into a fury of swirling rain driving through the valley.
I have seen some bloggers choosing a word for the year and I can get that, but I am greedy and have chosen a phrase, Have Some More Fun.
I remember it from a telly program some years ago about painting.
I have said a few times that I do not look back, what has gone has gone and can not be changed, I do however try to take any lessons learnt forward with me.
Having said all that I have had lots of fun today, watching some old stuff on the TV and singing along with Neil Sedaka. I have also been out for several walks both with Ben and with Archie and Dolly, they are young dogs and their owners can not manage to give them the exercise that they need. I love them and so does Ben and I am hoping that this will help me to get my weight back to where it should be.
To compound my day in the past I now have the first Indiana Jones film on, Fran has got a terrible cold and is on one sofa with Ben, I am on the other and my knitting is spread around me. The sleeves are now almost 4 inches longer and all the increasing is done.
Maggie is on the mend, at last, and sounds much happier. I will pop down and see her tomorrow, I have a few treats for the cats.
I have not put my machines back up in the sewing room but I have pulled some fabric ready to make some 9 patch blocks bordered in red, I need another 16 to finish a quilt top.
I have made no resolutions but I have made a couple of decisions.
First I want to go through my cook books, select 1 at a time and make a weeks worth of recipes from them.
Second I would like to look through all my craft books and magazines and make at least one item from each of them.
I ought to have a third and work my way through all my WIPS before starting new projects, but that is a none event. I am too much of a flibbertigibbet. I like having a variety of things to work on, that way I do not get bored. I am going to make a point of exploring all the stitches and gizmo's on my new machine, I need to push myself out of my comfort zone, there are so many crafts that I would like to try.
I have no need to shop for a few days, there is enough in the house to feed half the village.
I did walk past one house, with Ben, that had thrown what looked like a complete Christmas Lunch away. There was a full Turkey and bags of cooked veg spilling out of the food waste bin and recycling bags of cards and things. It looks as though somebody cancelled Christmas and just threw it away.
Two days later I walked past again and there were bags full on men's clothes out for the recycling collection lorry. It seemed quite sad.
I have a big bag of tee shirts hanging about, they are destined to be cut into strips for knitting or crochet, if I do not get it started this month I will be disposing of them.
I must be firm or I will disappear under a pile of embryonic projects.
Now the film is getting exciting so I need to focus.
I hope that you all had a good day.
TTFN Pam
Archie and Dolly will be pleased getting some nice walks and I'm sure Ben will enjoy having some company. Great challenges, I look forward to seeing how you do with them.
ReplyDeleteI have thought about doing both of these for ages but other things got in the way. Now my books and magazines have to earn their place in my bookshelves.
DeleteYour intentions seem to be much like mine, Pam. I intend to go through my cookery books and mags and try something different each week. I intend to try and make one gift a month towards next Christmas and that will probably involve going through my crafting mags. I also want to finish off some projects, and after my MIL passed away in November DH and I decided we needed to try and enjoy life more, so some fun (frugal) things to share will be on the list. Let's see how long these good intentions last...LOL!
ReplyDeleteThis year will be a quilting year, I aim to make quilts for next Christmas for most people. My bookshelves are full to bursting and every book and magazine has to earn it's space. This will be part of my "have some more fun" theme for the year, I may be posting some photo's of strange items.
DeleteI am the same I always have two at least projects going on. And then I read someones Blog and want to try yet another idea.....Still need to take Xmad Decs down, but watching Batman film tonight....
ReplyDeleteThere's always tomorrow.
Rosezeeta.
My decs and tree will be down by Monday afternoon. I am working on an idea for the banisters on the landing, some sort of quilted patchwork banner with long points, embellished with ribbons and bells. I hope to use the QAYG method and then bind the lot at the end.
DeleteHave Some More Fun was Irish painter Frank Clarke's saying, a brilliant man, I have many of his books and did a course of his painting techniques they are so easy, I did in return run a workshop for a group of ladies who wanted to dip a toe into watercolour, Fun we had lots of it :-) I am looking forward to see your creativity throughout the year, my decorations are down and packed away :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Dawn, I remember now, I did watch a few episodes and used some of his techniques. I then became so busy that painting fell by the wayside. My tree and decs are starting to annoy so will be down soon.
DeleteI love your phrase of the year and you are taking the right steps to comply with it too. IMHO boredom equals sadness, busyness equals pleasure, GO girl! Happy New Year, Pam x
ReplyDeleteThank you, My Granny used to say that only the idle are bored, in our house the worst thing that you could say was that you were bored, she would have a chore for you instantly.
DeleteHappy New Year Pam. I look forward to seeing the pictures of all the new crafts you will be learning x
ReplyDeleteI have a "thing" about zippers. I have just watched a tutorial and will be making a series of zipped bags as soon as I get the room back to rights.
DeleteGood phrase for the year!
ReplyDeleteWow... what our recycling bins say about us. That sounds like quite a story, the cancelled Christmas!
I think mine would say - cat owner who drinks a lot of wine. Sad but true!
I hate to think what mine say, I am a bit obsessive and do not fill a carrier bag with "black bag" rubbish. I recycle everything possible and there is not much of that as I am careful not to buy much packaging.
DeleteHave some fun, or just FUN is such a good idea for the New Year.Like you, I am setting myself no resolutions, but I think I will meditate on the word ABUNDANCE, meaning all that I have, all that I wish to be, and all that I wish to achieve, one way or another , in the coming year. (Not necessarily big things, by the way!) I have just got round to reading some blogs and so relived to see you had Christmas after all, as I had been quite concerned about your earlier post. Good on you Pam! Lxxx
ReplyDeleteI intend to have plenty of fun this year, and not just crafting. I am going to get Maggie out and about once we get some good weather.
