Sorting and Sewing on Sunday

Just call me Gloria, Gaynor that is. I have survived and (hopefully) have come out the other side stronger, perhaps it should be call me Kelly, Clarkson that is.

Any who, enough of the singing, I have been tidying my off cut and big scrap bins. While I was at it I found a big piece of fabric, a gift, and made a tote bag. Not just any old bag but a string strip bag, because I unearthed rather a few smaller bags full of skinny strips and odd corner bits.

Here is my new bag, overflowing with delicious little bites of colour.
Well and good, one thing led to another and I thought that I may as well press a few bits.

These never made it into the bag, there was not room. A good starting point for some string blocks. The idea has been fermenting away in my head for ages, it may well have stayed there but for my cold.

While I was busy snotting my way through a years supply of tissues I did quite a bit of surfing and tutorial watching. I also picked up a live cam cast from Bonnie Hunter, and she was busy making string blocks, little titchy ones at 3" finished. Now I like tiny scraps but reserve them for my crazy patchwork, soooo, I grabbed last weeks newspaper and cut myself a stack of 6" squares. Then moved some of the pressed bits to the sewing table.

This was pristine this morning, I should have known that it would not last. Not to worry, I have had fun stitching and pressing away.

Before I realised it there were 15 blocks to be trimmed. I do not have a plan for these but, as the stack grows I am sure to come up with something.

The trouble is, as always, the bag of strings that I am working from seems to be fuller now than when I started. Hey ho, I will prevail.

Now I am off to have a quick straighten up before finding my way to the kitchen, tea is called for and lots of it. Then dinner I am having fish and chips for a change, all cooked in the oven, with some mushy peas and a slice of fresh bread. Can't have chips without making a butty now can you.

I went to the local cinema in Brynamman yesterday and saw Into The Woods, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Although Red Riding Hood needed a slap or three, to my thinking. It is only £4 for an OAP which is very good, and the seats are comfy, the place is clean and warm, and someone comes round with ice cream and lollies!

    1. Let me assure you that if there were elves it would be the housework that I would be pointing them at. I have not sewn a stich since my last post till this morning. My head was so stuffed up that it ached and nothing touched it. I managed 2 walks before the rain today so the fresh air helps quite a bit.

    1. I can not bring myself to throw a single bit of fabric away, even the trimmings from the finished blocks get used.

  5. Evening Pam. Pleased to see you have got through your rotten cold. No use telling you to take it easy, it's not your nature. I have just got back into sewing and am thinking of getting the Crazy quilt template, it seems a good way to use up scraps. Enjoy your pish and fips :-D CMW

    1. I have not seen the template, I either foundation piece onto paper of take a strip and sew crumbs down one side. Then cut them apart between the crumbs, press and sew to another strip. Dinner was very good.

  9. The blocks look great Pam, whatever you make with them is going to look happy and cheery. You could always apply the same principle to quilt as you go then join the blocks together. I had my week planned but stuff just got in the way as always lol.

    take care
