I am not to get my ears wet for 2 days, so a soak in the bath for me , I much prefer a shower but needs must and all that.
I was moaning to the nurse about the b****y cucumbers that will not sprout and other gardening hates, like slugs. She is a gardener so we enjoyed a chat, when I got back the early fog had all but gone. I put the kettle on and sauntered up to the greenhouse to open it up, had a look at all the pots and trays and what did I find 2 cucumbers had put the seed leaves up, WOO HOO. I have set several more and now I expect that they will all shoot.
I found a new blog this morning, Happening upon Happiness, of course I was blog hopping but stayed and read through from the beginning. Some wonderful recipes and meal plans there and some sound advice with no preaching. I made her bread recipe up this afternoon, it looks and smells wonderful. I also made a fridge bottom chilli for dinner and a salad from the garden.
She has me thinking about chickens again, I am going to measure up at the weekend to see if I can squeeze a house and run for 3 hens in somewhere.
I used half and half white and wholemeal and got a lovely soft dough.
Almost bloomer shaped, I used my mini oven and it baked to perfection.
My chilli simmering away.
Baby salad leaves, mint, flat parsley and spinach leaves along with a few radishes for crunch.
It was still warm enough to take a tray into the garden, I added a splash of Balsamic to my salad and the tray cloth, told you I was clumsy.
I hate putting the oven on for just one thing, so dug some pastry from the freezer, left from another baking session, took the half jar of mincemeat from the fridge and made a little crumble mix. 2 mincemeat crumble pies, 1 to eat 1 to give. Now where is the custard powder.
Ben had his cut wash and blow dry and looks much better for it, I am trying to decide whether to have my mop chopped, I will see how hot it gets I think.
Blimey it is gone 8.30 and I have no tea, a sad state of affairs which must end now.
TTFN Pam
Hello. Your dinner look so tasty. Chickens, how exciting. When I am settled somewhere permanent I hope to get some. If you go ahead I will follow with interest x
ReplyDeleteIt will just depend on if I have the space needed, hens have to have room to roam a bit and have a good scratch in the soil. Then you need as much space again to put them in to give the first area a rest.
DeleteHappening upon Happiness is such a well written blog, I've also read from the beginning which I don't often do.
ReplyDeleteWe've had a lovely sunny day over here but the wind will be from the East again tomorrow so back to very chilly, 10 degrees colder the weather lady said.
You will be able to write the book of 101 ways with cucumber if they all grow well!
It is a good job that Marketmore are not a mile long. We are supposed to have fine weather all week.
Deletedinner looks lovely, my cubits are being a bit stubborn too :-)
ReplyDeleteAt least the tomatoes are racing to catch up with the peppers now. Dinner was good, just veg from the fridge and some chickpeas. The fresh salad made a world of difference.
DeleteI am glad that you can hear again!! xx
ReplyDeleteAnd so am I, although for a few hours everything seemed to be at top volume.
Deleteoh ick! i feel you on the syringe front! i had mine done a few years ago and it was the most awful feeling!never again! I think i may have to get you to bake me some bread mind, i can never get mine right no matter which method i use :( xx
ReplyDeleteTry looking up The Grant Loaf, a no knead recipe from the last war. There are loads of videos on the tube showing no knead breads, my next loaf will be one of those.
DeleteMy youngest had his ear done yesterday. He reports having had a laughing fit when he saw the wax.
ReplyDeleteHe made the nurse so happy, he can come back any time. I just don't understand that child
Boys! I had a quick look , disgusting.
DeleteOoh Pam I can so relate to the ear issues, I really hope you are on the mend . It would be lovely if you could get some hens . Take care and hope your ear issues are over xxxx
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed it is done with. I will keep hens if it is possible. It may have to wait as I am hoping to visit Australia later this year, it is almost 2 years since I saw my brother and over twice that since my last visit. This time may well be the last trip so I aim to be over for a couple of months and have a good look at the country, not just WA.
DeleteI'm going to try that bread recipe in my new mini oven, hope it turns out as well as yours.
ReplyDeleteI lowered the temperature just a little and kept an eye on it. I sprayed the crust with oil and it turned out lovely.

DeleteAny leftover Pam, it would be worth the drive, hope you can find room for the chickens.
ReplyDeleteFraid not, leftovers became next day lunch.
DeleteGlad you are able to hear again. Lovely bread, Im quite partial to a doorstep with nice butter, unfortunately I cant find it on the SW diet :-)
ReplyDeleteWe always grow Marketmore Cucumbers, they may be nice and small but they are jolly prolific! They do taste better than shop bought too. Xx
I have grown Burpee in the past but Marketmore have been my first choice for several years now.
DeleteI love having my ears cleaned out, our surgery uses an ultrasonic washing probe, nicer than a syringe although that might be what was used on you. I hate slowly going deaf and having to wait as I am not allowed to have it done too often. Genes, eh, who would have them:)
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that it is over and done with, I will be putting a couple of drops of oliove oil in each ear every week from now on. That should prevent another build up.
