Pain and Rain with a beam of light

Sciatica has struck and I am writing through a fog of painkillers. I have some new medication to try and hopefully it will go soon. It poured most of the night and the first half of the day was a fine all enveloping drizzle. We did get a dry afternoon with the odd glimpse of blue skies, however it has been warm.

I have an appointment to view a house in Neath tomorrow, open plan downstairs with 2 double bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. An enclosed garden with an outbuilding. If it is as good in the flesh as in the photos I am thinking of buying it to let. It is only 3 minutes from the train station and 10 to 15 minutes from the M 4.  It is also handy for Neath town center and the street has residents parking.

This will be short and sweet as the pills send me to sleep.
I had to order some more basting pins today, I found mine when packing but of course I have no idea where they are now, and I have 4 quilt tops to layer. They will be Christmas presents for Sian and Dai, one each for the daughters and one for Faith. I have the backs made and all the wadding ready. As soon as the pain wears off I am off to try out some sewing machines in Swansea, I will buy a Horn cabinet as well I have dithered long enough and it is Make Your Mind Up Time.

I really must go now, I feel quite fuzzy.

  1. I wonder which Horn you will go for, Hubby treated me to one for my birthday last year, I love having a purpose made table for sewing.
Hope your Siatica improves and you get some relif.

    1. I am going to Swansea to find it, there are two shops that sell a large range of sewing machines and some Horn cabinets. I have decided on a Janome machine with an 11" harp space, all I have to do is decide which model to go for. The new pills are helping with the pain and it will pass eventually.

    1. I am really looking forward to my expedition, it will be a full day as there are two shops full of machines. It is a hard job but someone has to do it.

  5. I bought my Janome 8900 with 11" harp almost 2 years ago and love it. I started to make quilts and found it very painful with only a school desk and ironing board to support the weight of the quilt. This year for my 70th my husband bought me a Horn Quilter's Delight and it has made all the difference. I would really recommend this unit and I also bought the 4 drawer unit which I put on the RHS of the table. The back flap is perfect for supporting the weight of a quilt which is what I wanted but it is also great for cutting out etc. I don't need a separate table now, except for large items. I sew in our spare bedroom and when we have guests the cabinet folds up really small and guests can use it as a dressing table. I also have bad sciatica at the moment and tablets don't help a lot. What kind do you have?

    1. I am on Naproxen anti inflammatory and take Co-codamol 30/500 for the pain, anything stronger turns me into a zombie. When it goes away I am as fit as a fiddle and can do just about anything that I want. When it flares up I am useless, I can walk Ben but only for 20 - 30 minutes at a time but any turning or sideways movement is hellish, even getting in and out of the car is bad at times.
