Why you should not sew with earache.

I woke up Monday morning with blocked up ears, tinnitus and a fair bit of discomfort, out with the Otex, and squeeze in a few drops.
No change.
Repeat later in the day, still no change.
My embroidery machine arrived, thank you Peg, but I could not summon up the interest to open it.
Tuesday the pressure eased a bit, kept on with the drops and had a check up, wonderful, an infection, take pills and feel nauseous.,
To take my mind off it I decided to try my hand at making a circular skirt, with side seam pockets. It is a bit loose but a wearable toile, I need a full petticoat though.

As you can see it is a hipster on my model, I managed a decent zipper insertion and a hook and eye fastening. The waist is simply finished with a facing for a smooth appearance. If anybody is curious about the fabric, it started life as a duvet cover from Asda, I bought it ages ago and picked up the wrong size so never used it.

There is so much fabric that I have an edge to edge jacket nearly finished and aim to make a simple sleeveless top.

And now to the utter failure.
Yesterday I made up the third Snapshot Quilt block, I cut it all out last month and promptly forgot it.
At the last bit of assembly I realised that not only  was a  piece missing and I had run out of the white on white, but the kettle handle was crooked and there were some points that did not match at all.  Even worse, I did not like the colours or the star on the front. Woe is me.

I will pick some more fabric and remake this, the first will not be wasted, I will turn it into a cushion for Francesca, she is a tea aholic.

Today the surgery have decided that next Tuesday I must have my ears syringed, yeuk! I had it done once before and did not like it at all.
Today the pain has subsided but the tinnitus remains and I am almost deaf. I aim to get some sewing done later, Ben has to have a walk first. I would like to finish the little jacket, I am going to attempt to "bag line" it, I have watched a u tube tutorial and read a description so wish me luck. If it all works I will be making the "real thing" next week, using some of my bargain buys from the fabric guild. I dare not even look at their website at the moment.

Now it is time to walk, Ben is giving me the evil eye stare.

    1. Enjoy your sewing, the jacket is now done, it is my first try at a lined jacket and I am reasonably happy with it. I will certainly be wearing it. I am not looking forward to the treatment but will be happy to have normal ears again.

  4. Awww.... poor you! Not nice having ears syringed :-( Hope it isn't too painful. What a great job you have made of your skirt. I look forward to seeing the jacket tomorrow. Just need the weather to be able to wear it. Thank you for admitting to a sewing failure, it makes me feel better when mine go wrong. I have to say, I don't know where you've gone wrong, but if you say it's wrong then I believe you! Enjoy the weekend Pam, hope the weather is better so that you and Ben can enjoy some dry walks. CMW

    1. The shirt is just a bit big, it was the patchwork block that was so wrong, mind you when I had finished overlocking the sleeves into the jacket I realised that one was in the wrong way and had to be completely unpicked. All sorted now.

  5. I've been putting off having my right (slightly deaf) ear syringed for years now . . . My mum was very deaf from her 30s onwards and I hope I am not developing a similar problem, although I think it's probably just wax! I hope you are better soon and not having to take the pills which make you feel sick.

I love the butterflies material, and a great re-use of a pretty fabric.

  11. You must be feeling poorly if you have a new toy and haven't used it yet ! I hope you feel better soon.
I am 70% deaf so know only too well how loss of hearing affects you. I have to wear an aid.
