My breakfast is a moveable feast, eaten sometime between 5:30 and 9:30 depending on what time I get up and how busy I am or what I have planned. What I have varies from toast and marmite/peanut butter/marmalade to muesli or porridge. On Sunday I decided to have a real treat,
Toast, scrambled eggs and mushrooms, lush. Then I was full all day, I made Cottage pie and had that at around 7.00.
On Monday I took someone to Neath for an appointment, while I was waiting for them I had a stroll round the shops. I popped into Wilko to look for a new lead for Ben and picked up these,
Retail value £8.48, I paid 60p, nice. I have tucked them away ready for next year.
In the afternoon I took Ben for a ramble and found a small handful of berries, these are now in a box in the freezer.
Sorry it is a bit blurred, my first blackberries this year, all 4 of them and some yellow raspberries growing wild.
A few strawberries, I am picking every day, to chop and add to the freezer box.
Today it has pelted down with strong winds on and off all day, I have hung new curtains in my bedroom, tidied some books up and made these.
My second flirtation with Cathedral Window Block, a little better. I have to experiment with the pressure on the foot, the seams are thick there are 6 layers of fabric there and the top layer is moving slightly. These will become cushion covers, hopefully there will be another one to join them.
Dinner tonight was a very lazy pizza, a cheese and tomato thin crust from Lidl with extra toppings. Naughty as I had time to make it from scratch but....... My freezers are full and I am going to eat my way through them. I want to start tucking away some hearty winter warmer meals, I stocked up on half price beef from Lidl ready for casseroles and some bargain chickens from the village shop. I like to fill the oven when it goes on and the slow cooker will make 6 good portions at a time.
Now I am back to my hand stitching, the single quilt that was on the frame is all but finished, I am about a third way round slip stitching the binding down.

The birds have found my raspberries, next on the list is to make a big cage around the fruit, I love doing cathedral windows I have always done them by hand I will have to have a go on the sewing machine :-)
ReplyDeleteMy fruit garden will be fully set up later this year and will have a cage and netting. I have never made Cathedral Windows by hand, I will look on youtube.
DeleteWow, that's a lovely big fat strawberry! Ours are all finished now, they didn't do so well this year but I do have 1 1/2 boxfuls in the freezer so at least some strawberry jam can be made. The new Cathedral Window blocks are looking lovely, as usual.
ReplyDeleteWhen the box is full I will make mixed fruit jam. I have had some monster strawberries. The plants were reduced to 10p and some had labels, I just mixed them up. I now have around 2 dozen rooted runners and more coming. There will be lots of fruit next year. fingers crossed.
DeleteYour cathedral window blocks are beautiful!! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Amy, I am getting better at matching the points, I think that I need to sharpen my cutting up, just a small amount off puts it all out of kilter
DeleteDid you really say stock up freezer for winter? Say it's not so-not yet!
ReplyDeleteYup I did, but remember that I have to eat through my more summery meals first. I like to batch cook and freeze, then do not have to worry about shopping if the weather turns nasty. I do much more crafting in the winter so time saved from other things is a nice bonus.
DeleteBreakfast is a serious business for me and I'm always interested to hear about other folk's breakfast habits! Do you treat yourself like this every Sunday?
ReplyDeleteGreat seed bargains from Wilko and more cathedral window, even prettier than the last panel. It would be lovely to see thee finished articles, resplendent on your sofa!

Sometimes I put some effort into breakfast, just depends on what I have and how hungry I am. My favourite is pancakes and maple syrup, either with fruit or bacon, sometimes both.
DeleteHi Pam, I'm having the same trouble with the followers bar. It's such a nuisance but I can't seem to do anything about it.
ReplyDeleteWow, those strawberries look lush. Mine have been tiny this year and very slow to ripen. Can I ask, when you slice them to freeze do you do anything to them or just pop them in a box? I hadn't thought of saving them in that way..
I seem to recall reading a blog post a while ago saying that Blogger had done this. I think that it is supposed to stop people going to blogs and commenting!! I thought that bloggers loved having visitors who left comments. I do nothing to the fruit except to get the size more or less uniform. When the box is full it will become jam of a fruit sauce for puddings and smoothies.
DeleteMy blogger is the same with new follower's, why can't they leave things alone. I had poached egg on toast the other day, it was bliss, I don't like my eggs scrambled.
