Rain on Monday

I delivered Fran to the train station yesterday morning and she arrived home safely a few hours later. On Saturday as well as making the little pouches and her birthday cushion I made 2 covers for her body pillow ( 60" long) and a fabric bowl to match the pouch that she claimed.
At some point I knocked the back of my left hand and now it is painful and stiff, I can use it but can not grip anything. I decided that yesterday I would do as little as possible to rest it, I snuggled down on the sofa with Ben, after his walk, and managed to doze off twice.
It was lovely but the effect was that I could not sleep last night, I have been up since stoopid o'clock and am now feeling sleepy. DUH.

Not to worry, if I need a nap then I shall have one.
The upside is that the beds are changed and the linen is washed, the ironing is done and the house has been put to rights.

Peter is out of strictly, I used to dance as a teenager but am no expert. I thought that one of the lifts in the other couples dance off routine was very clumsy and quite expected them to go.  I read some of the publicity over Anton allegedly mouthing criticism at Peter's first attempt at the American Smooth. I saw the incident and I could not make out what he was saying, it matters not what he said He should have kept it closed.
I am looking forward to next week, they are all dancing wonderfully and the standard is very high, I have no favourite and no glimmer of who may be the winner.

I have stuffed myself over the weekend and there is a batch of minestrone soup in the slow cooker. That will be lunches this week, dinners will be out of the freezer so hopefully a low spend week will happen.

Now I am off to get Ben walked and fed, then a little gentle sewing is in order.

  1. Hope your hand is feeling a little better. I have just made leek and potato soup again, we too are eating out of the freezer this week hoping to keep the costs down. Take care.

    1. I have to admit that I am eating from the freezer out of laziness, and I am busy sewing some requests.

  2. I have been voting for Jay and Aliona because he seems to have dropped in the last couple of weeks after such promise but I feel he is a worthy finalist. I vote online, you get 3 votes and it only takes a minute or two, and it is free. Busy making Christmas presents, no pressure because I enjoy making and a girl can only have so many bags and pouches. It's not as if I have to go to work and have matching bags - hooray. I could easily exist in 3 outfits. It's a shame I didn't have time for all this sewing when I was a worker bee.

    1. I can sew all day if time allows, it makes me feel contented. My presents are all made, the sewing today is for some requests.

  3. I also didn't sleep last night, chronic pain as usual but also I have bought my first overlocker and my mind is full of it and all those seams I can finish much better and quicker, not to mention rolled edges. Lush.

    1. My overlocker has a prominent place very close top the Janome QC, I use it on most seams.

  4. I hope your hand is better soon. I managed to knock a vein in my thumb yesterday, carrying in a BIG heavy trunk to the Militaria Fair, and it promptly hurt like the bejeebers and turn black and blue. Better today, so it shouldn't stop me sewing (I hope).

Minestrone Soup is the one I make the most, it's so tasty.

Agree with you on the Strictly result - I thought Katie Derham should go, but then I didn't vote . . .

    1. The trouble with a tender spot is that you seem to constantly bash it, no matter what you are doing and how much care you take. My version of Minestrone is a bit spicy today, I felt that some chilli and ginger would not be amiss.

  5. OOh Er I have just spotted a page to Home on the side bar. I have no idea how I did that, it must have been when I was putting the recipe blog up. I did try to make that a page, I may have to play a bit later on and see what I can make of it.

  6. I thought Peter should have gone last week in the dance off, never mind only a few weeks and it will be over for another year, I have a lot of sewing to crack on with this week :-)

    1. He was so good at the beginning but seemed to just plummet downhill.

  7. Sorry to hear you've injured your hand. I hope it's getting better for you. Perfect weather for soup isn't it, I bought some coconut milk to make a spiced pumpkin soup but I admit to minestrone being my favourite x

    1. I like just about any soup, with a chunk of bread and maybe a bit of cheese.

  8. Hope that your hand is better soon. I don't really like anyone leaving strictly! I am no good at choosing these things. xx

    1. I get mesmerised by the dancing and do not know enough to study the footwork and posture.

  9. Dancing with the stars finished in the states and Bindi Irwin, daughter of the late Steve Irwin won. She was by far the best. They also announced that Len would be back next season. I hope your hand is feeling better. We just spent the afternoon replacing all the coloured lights on the outside of the house for Christmas. They have been up for about 20 years and therefore had lost all their colour. Looks much better now and will probably have to last for another 20 years! Hope your hand is feeling better now.
