To comment ,or not to comment

Or maybe, To allow comments.
Ilona, aka Mean Queen, has stopped all comments and turned her blog into a true diary. Hers has been a popular blog, read worldwide, for a long time. Her lifestyle is well documented and published here in blog land, on the TV and Radio.
I have dropped many a comment onto her blog as have countless others.
She is quite right in her belief that things have to progress, otherwise they become stale and repetitive. After all we know the principles, Shop wisely, eat well, live both simply and healthily, become money wise and save up for purchases.

There can be little new to add and few original comments to make.

Over the years she has been plagued by nasty tongued trolls, who are too cowardly to leave a name.

Sooze (her Indoors) has suffered recently from that particular can of worms. I have had a few.

Yes it is painful to read vitriol BUT you can disallow anonymous comments. That rules out a large percentage of the monsters.

If I got enough of this slurry to upset me that is what I would do.

So far I am happy to choose to publish or consign to the spam bin any comments. There have been some hilarious ones recently trying to sell me Viagra. I struggle to swallow pills of any type, it usually takes a glass of water and a cup of tea to swoosh them down my gullet.
If those little blue pills act fast I could end up with a very painful neck area, and for how long doesn't bare thinking about.

I just take a quick glance and click them into oblivion. such a shame that the facility is not there to do the same to the authors of that spite.

We had some wonderful rain yesterday, it tried very hard to get beyond a nearly drizzle, just moisture suspended in the air, for 30 minutes. Then down it came, steady and thorough, exquisite rain for over 2 hours.
We had to go out in the afternoon and it was jacket, lights and wipers on. As we got into the car to come home the rain stopped, the sun came out and the windows were fully opened as it was as hot as Hades within minutes.

Hey Ho, every little counts and we had rather more than a little.

This morning there is a mist over the valley bottom, the sun is shining through a light haze and it is warm.

The garden looks vibrant and fresh, fingers crossed that the sun does not do its utmost to scorch it all again.

Nothing much planned for today, possibly a shopping trip but it is not essential.

I was woken by Herbie this morning, he was sitting beside the bed with his face as close to mine as he could get it. He put just enough pressure on my pillow to wake me up, I hauled myself to an almost conscious state and came downstairs to let him out. Whereupon he turned tale and went back up to his bed.

Cheeky Boy, must have decided that I had overslept.

Never mind, the washing machine is on, the bread is on and I sorted through the fridge while the kettle boiled.

There are courgettes to be picked, strawberry runners to peg down into pots, some floppy flower stems to be supported and a myriad of other small jobs to do. I will just work through them as I go through the day.

I did a little sewing yesterday, serged the raw edges of one dress and put the pocket pieces in. If I feel so inclined I will sew it together today, only 2 pieces, and bind the arm and neck openings. This one will not be lined as it is a heavy weight cotton, I have made a waist slip to wear with it if I feel the need.

The other dress may well be taken apart and become a skirt and top. I am not feeling the fabric combination now, probably the reason that it is not finished.

That's my lot for today, I will, no doubt, add to the list as the day wears on and I become more awake and alert. On the whole I intend it to be a slow and steady one. For some reason I was very tired last night and am still sluggish this morning. A walk will blow the cobwebs away, I hope.

                        TTFN                                               Pam.

  1. Thank you Pam, I am extremely lucky to have had very few nasty comments, this last one got to me because it was just so spiteful and personal, and all because she disagreed with something I'd said or done.

Your description of Herbie waking you up made me smile, especially when he then went back to bed after waking you up! Hope your cobwebs get blown away.

    1. They were gone pretty quickly, I may have nodded off in the afternoon.

  2. I think when we are strong and well, any off comments we can brush aside. I too won't allow anonymous comments, and laugh at some comments before deleting them. Yes everyone can have their say, but if it's rude, has swear words of is selling anything, they go in my bin. I have also had a couple of comments in a different language, which again I don't publish.

    1. We each have to draw a line in the sand and then stick to it. I think that it is a given that if you write controversial stuff you will get some direct comments.

  3. I do think it's sad that some people think it's OK to upset other people by leaving the comments that they do. Some say that it's jealousy but I think it's just plain old nastiness.
Up to now all I have have is three or four snotty comments but if I did get any nasty ones they would just be deleted and nothing said as I wouldn't give them the attention they they crave.

No rain here. I am quite envious...lol.

  4. We are having rain at the moment. Quite heavy actuall and the sky is looking very dark, there must be more to come. The gardens really need it. I hope it will help with Saddleworth Moor and Winter Hill fires.

    1. The whole country needs rain, I see far too many smokers flicking their cigarette ends out of car windows. Thoughtless Idiots.

    1. It amazes me that anyone would read the drivel.

  7. I don't write a blog, though I do read a select few and of those, I can only reply to three, well two now. I don't have a computer, just a six year old smart phone. I didn't keep pace with computer technology, never felt the need, didn't have time, not really that interested. Now I google, research a bit and read, but it does for me at the moment. It's nice to comment on blogs sometimes but writing them is another thing.
Blogs vary, some are just words and thoughts, some have flower or place photographs, but some open up their whole life to the public, photographs of themselves, children, holidays, friends and family, until people feel that they know them totally, and personally, and like actors or singers become a fan, sometimes even a stalker. I keep a diary for me, on paper. I am a nice person who enjoys reading blogs and it's up to the blogger how or what they write about. I comment when I have something to say, I don't criticise or give false praise, and think trolls are spiteful people. Sadly, bad people are out there.
I am something of a private person, writing a blog means you put yourself out there, and the more you make the intimate details of your life public, the more vulnerable you become. As I said, I enjoy reading some blogs, whatever form they take. I get sad when they lose a loved one, happy when a pet story has a happy ending and so on. Should I ever get the hang of technology and write a blog myself, it will be interesting I hope, perhaps about craft, nature, pets, thoughts, but I would never expose personal details of my life in depth. There are too many nasty people out there.

  8. But what about all the nice and good comments? I think Meanqueen may miss them. I know I would.

  9. I guess it's up to each blogger whether to allow comments or not. Of course Ilona has every right to turn off comments, but it makes me sad that all the comments that have been made over the years have gone too. They were a good read too.

    1. Thank you for drawing my attention to that, I didn't realise that every comment would disappear. I've turned it back on again and all the previous comments are still there. Will have to think again.

  10. Pam, I've gotten a few Viagra comments too, but the whole comment looks like some foreign language to me so I never know whether to delete them or not. Don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. So, it really is Viagra they're talking about! :) I thought maybe "Viagra" was a foreign word. I can be pretty dumb. :) So, from now on, these comments get zapped immediately. I can't believe there are folks out there with nothing better to do than leave ugly comments. Herbie sure sounds like a cutie pie. We were awakened early this morning by Eli shaking his head, drooling, and yawning. I thought a horse had gotten in the house.

    1. Eli is bigger than some of the miniature horses that i have seen. I delete anything that appears to be spam or spite, never give it a second thought.

  11. At one point I used to get quite a great deal of spam. Not so much anymore. I think it all depends on how many followers you have and how popular your blog is. I have never had an ugly comment, perhaps for the same reason. Now watch and I will get lots.

    Herbie is such a cutie.

    God bless.

  12. I hate not being able to comment on a blog, but do understand some people's reasons for closing comments.

  13. Oh Pam, what I would give for some rain just now. The green areas are starting to look like hay fields and even the trees are starting to look a bit tired and droopy. The heatwave surely can't go on for much longer

  14. I have had the spam comments trying to sell Viagra too, I just put them in the bin. It is so cruel that people sometimes comment just to be mean. If they don't like a blog they can choose not to read it, there is no need for spite.
