What? No Not me. How did that happen?

I was so stupid yesterday.
We had cloud cover.
We had a cool breeze.
Ben and Herbie had their first walk at 6, and it was longer than usual. Because it was cooler than it has been for weeks.

Then Rufus was not up to a walk and Herbie wanted a longer walk again. All that young terrier energy.

We got home after 45 minutes.

It was still cloudy.
It was still breezy.

I could not settle to anything.
Sooooooo.

(here comes the stupid bit)

I went for a walk. Simples.

I was out for about an hour.

When I got back indoors I was really thirsty.

No probs, get a brew on.

Tea made and drunk.

Then I came over "all unnecessary" as an old friend used to say.
I was hot and cold, I actually shivered. My legs were wobbly, and so was the rest of me, I was very woozy, and not a drop of gin in sight.
I sat for a few minutes and then went to lie on the bed. My heart was racing and thumping and it was just a touch scary.

Then sleep hit me and I was out for the count for around 2 hours.
The first thing that I did on waking was to have a drink.

Looking back over the morning I realised that I had only drunk about a pint, 2 cups of tea and a coffee.

I had let myself get a little dehydrated, it was most unpleasant and I will try very hard not to let it happen again.

It was that fast and so easy. I usually drink plenty of water though the day, yesterday I was just revelling in the cooler day and dropped the ball.

What stands out in my mind is the number of people who were dog walking. Some were throwing balls for the dogs to chase, it may have been cooler but not enough for that.

I stopped to speak to a friend in the village who was off out, she had her baby in her arms and was standing in shade while her car engine was running. She had the air con running to cool the car down, she knew that the heat would have an adverse effect on the baby. She was visiting friends and had made certain that she could park the car in their garage. It would be easy to get the car cooled down for the journey back.

That made me aware of how quickly cars become little ovens and how there is minimal shade in supermarket car parks. I know that this amount of heat, over this length of time is rare, but we do have hot days.

The only supermarket car park with some deep shady spots that I can think of is Morrison's in Neath. I always park in the shade and there are always spaces free. This may be because they are the farthest away from the shop doors.
I had a brother in law who would ride round the car park to get as close to the doors as possible, he would have parked inside if he could have.

Anyway once I got back downstairs it was a glass of water while the kettle boiled and plenty more during the rest of the day.

Because of my afternoon sleep I was later to bed than usual. I watched that program about the man who makes microscopic miniatures. Am Az ing.

I was up at my usual time this morning and made sure to drink a glass of water while the kettle boiled.

Nothing planned for today, sewing to finish, decide on dinner, go through the fridges and make meal plan and shopping list.

The SO wants to give the walls another coat of paint in the utility room.

I would love to sit outside and knit for a while. I have moved a few things around and made a little knitting nook in a spot that is shady in the afternoon.

Ben is mooching around the house, I think that he is ready for a walk. Herbie is still snoozing in his bed, if I rattle the leads he will be awake and ready to go. We will be back before 7 and the day can begin.

  1. An unpleasant experience for you. I'm glad you are now OK. It's so easy to take the eye off the ball, isn't it?
    Take care. xx

  2. I'm glad you're OK now. A good reminder to us all to have plenty to drink, especially in this warm weather. X

    1. I should have added that a really fast way to re hydrate is to lie in a bath of just warm enough water, while you drink. you can absorb lots of water like that.

  3. I had a similar experience on Monday night Pam (I live not far from you, in Swansea) Felt quite unwell and a little confused too, not a nice feeling. Don't want to feel like that again so will be upping the fluids even though it's now very overcast.

    1. I like Swansea, just not driving through it. It is so easy to put off that drink that you want(and need) to just finish this and then I'll just do that first. A lesson for us both.

    2. City centre is like a bombsite at the moment so better avoided if possible!

  4. Oh Pam that does sound scary.

Our T***o has about half a dozen shady spots to park in and we always park there if there is a free space.

Enjoy your knitting if you manage to sit out.
    Hugs-x-

  5. I am conscious of keeping my fluids upped in this weather, as it has an impact on my breathing too. Sorry you "came over all unnecessary" but good that you soon twigged why. I am always nagging K to drink more but he is a stubborn bugg*r!

Folk like your b-in-law make me cross. Especially the ones who park where there isn't a parking space, but by the trolleys at the front of the building - one the other day left his engine running as well (daughter in passenger seat), which doesn't help the atmosphere one jot. A body NEEDS exercise and I always think those who chose to park so close are shortening their lives . . . A nice SMUG thought!!!

  6. Oh dear - sounds a bit scary! I always forget to drink enough water. I get a bad headache when I'm in need of a drink and water cures it for me. My hubby was unwell last night - an allergic reaction to Ibuprofen (which is new to him) - mottled skin, puffy face, chest pains and itching - was quite unwell and is still not right this morning. Very strange.

    1. I hope that hubby is better now, allergies are strange creatures, apparently they can develop over a short space of time. Suddenly you find that something that you have used/eaten/drunk for years triggers all sorts of reactions.

  7. Our recent trips by car to Somerset, was at times unbearable, we could keep the car cool, but most of the time the sun beating through the windscreen on us. The journey normally takes about two and a half hours, but through summer it can take up to five hours. We normally do not travel through July and August, but this year family commitments mean we will have to travel often. PS I do hate the A303, love driving past Stonehenge, but the traffic is horrendous.

    1. I used to holiday in Somerset but never enjoyed the drive there. The one to Havant to visit family was much more pleasant.

  9. Husband did this last week when he was working outdoors with a group of volunteers. I did exactly as you suggested-gave him a drink to sip as slowly as possible and the insisted he lay down. After a cool bath and lots more liquid drunk slowly he was ok but exhausted. Keep hoping for rain but not so far here in Yorkshire.

  11. I am so glad that you managed to get rehydrated. This is always something I worry about here on the prairies of Canada. Drink before I leave for my walk and a drink when I get back.

    God bless.
