1 down, and a BOGOF

Hollyburn is finished and I love her. I still have not decided whether to add more of the bright fabric or not.

No photo yet but I found a smaller piece of blue fabric that was left from an old project and squeezed a skirt from it. I used the Delphine pattern from Tilly and the Buttons book, there will be a new book fairly soon so I will be having a look at that.

Once again I had to have a very narrow waistband, I quite like that as I do not need to interface, and I used a blue fabric to add inseam pockets.

That little blue bag on the floor is full of crushed walnut shell and it stops the door from banging into the wall.
I have plans to replace it with something prettier but not one of those white and metal proper thingies, far too boring. I will possibly make an Owl in some bright fabrics. That will give me a reason to use my die cutting machine, it has sat unused and neglected for over 3 years!!
Bad Pam, but it was a surprise gift, more of a shock really. It is a Big Shot Plus and I could not justify buying patchwork dies as I have a collection of rulers and templates.

Any how, I just wanted to keep you all updated and now it is time to walk Rufus, then I will be finishing off the Delphine before having a tidy up. I will need to get white thread back onto the overlocker/serger before starting the dress that is cut out, AND I completely forgot about the lining so it will be some white cotton lawn that is on top of the stack.

PS. I found a new podcast to watch, Gaga Knits. She is from South Wales and is on a learning curve. It is knitting, crochet and sewing with a bit of Mary Berry and some lovely shots of her gorgeous little dog. Number 2 has just been posted and both episodes are worth paying a visit to.

  1. That skirt is perfect and it’s something you really can’t buy! Skirts are awaful just now and I cannot find anything to suit me-I’m 5’3” tall which means they are all a dreary length on me. Can’t believe you’ve already finished it and another one. Go Pam! Catriona

    1. I am about 5'5" tall and have trouble finding skirts that fall just where I like. My waist is small for my hip size so making my own is the best solution. I can buy elasticated waists but they allow too many naughty treats.

  2. That's a really smart skirt Pam.
Like Catriona I have problems finding skirts to suit me but the opposite applies for me. I am tall at 5'10" and I like long skirts......ankle length if possible. I have a pattern which works for me so I think I might need to rustle up a couple of new ones.

    1. I like long skirts and just decide how wide I want the bottom to be and grade out from the waist to that width on my Hollyburn pattern.

    1. The fabric is grey but in some lights reads brown and in others green, a lot depends on what colours I put with it.

    1. I am very pleased with it and want to look for some suiting for another one or two. Once you get started it flows along, it's finding the time to get set up.

  6. Love the skirt, I am thinking I might have a go myself. I am only 4' 11" so length is always an issue.

  7. My daughter is much shorter than me and for an A line or pencil skirt I have to alter the length in 2 places, between waist and widest part of hips and then about half way between hips and hem.
Gathered skirts are not an issue except for pocket placement.

  8. Thank you so much for mentioning my podcast. I've found you now too. I have the Hollyburn skirt pattern but have not made one yet. Katie of Inside Number 23 podcast did a sewalong for it a while back. Everything from fabric choice to different finishes. Anita x

  9. Pam, you are such a good seamstress! The skirt is pretty! Sewing has to be simple for me. Real simple! I read your post about the ironing board falling a few days ago and thought I left a comment? Anyhow, I am always knocking the iron off the ironing board, spilling the water.
