A new win win.

Not the dress, that is still on the benches.

I have been whinging about changing the kitchen for absolutely ages. I wanted open shelving at the top and dresser style cupboards at the base.

Rather than have all that work done and then possibly realise that it didn't work or look right we had a think. Image result for think think think winnie the pooh

The outcome was that the SO has taken the doors and fixings off the top cupboards. I will live with them for at least 3 months to decide whether or not that IS what I really want. I did do some shuffling round and removed some clutter that had built up on one shelf.
The first win, a free trial of a kitchen style, that I may or may not want to keep.

Then he has removed the base doors and I have hung curtains over the doorways. I had a good rummage around and found a whole bolt of medium weight curtain fabric. There is the second win, more out of the stash.

I enjoyed that frenzy of sewing and even better was the using of some long hoarded fabric. There is still enough left on the bolt to make another set, making laundering an easy option with no pressure to get them dried and hung back in one day.

Time to get dinner on the plates now, we have postponed the barlotto till tomorrow. I had broccoli to use and some grated cheese and cream that were on the last day. Broccoli quiche with root potato chips and some homemade coleslaw. Oh Yum.

  1. That’s a great idea, Pam. We are about to overhaul our bedroom and I would like to go back to a divan base. We’ve been away for a few nights and slept in a kingsize divan so DH has been convinced that this is the way forward. I just find the super king size bed so difficult to make and also expensive on bedding. We really need a new bed ( I have a chronic back problem) so we need to look at doing the renovations as evonomically as possible. Well done with your express sewing. Catriona

    1. We have a metal bed frame with a memory foam mattress, it is sublime. I no longer have back pain or restless leg syndrome.

  2. Such a wonderful idea and as you say a win win situation. The quiche sounds good, its on my list to make as I seem to have a glut of cheese at the moment.

    1. It was delicious and the coleslaw was the perfect side dish.

  3. Yum! I love broccoli quiche! I love the look of open cupboards...but with our pet harem, it would be a hairy disaster! I'd likely opt for glass doors (if I could ever afford them lol!)!

    1. I only have Ben and the only thing that he goes near in the kitchen is his food bin. I have had glass doors and found them hard work, they seem to get marks on seconds after being cleaned.

    1. I had a large built in dresser in Tydd and would like to have the same look here. If I stick with it the base doors will be replaced with wire mesh in a wooden frame as I havwe always liked that style.

  5. I love the idea and look of a proper Welsh dresser but not keen on open shelves in the kitchen, too much faff in keeping it all free of dust and 'cooking fumes/steam' deposits (yes I do have a cooker hood but still..) My saucepans are on open shelves and I'm forever 'de-greasing' the shelves (not that I ever deep-fry anything!)

    1. I use every bit of the equipment that I have in the kitchen on a regular basis. Once shelf is just about empty i just give it a spray with my vinegar cleaner and wipe it off. I have always done that so (fingers crossed) it should not mean any more work.
