Back on the (Not so) Merry go round.

I caught a bit of the news this morning, amid all the flurry regarding exam results, Algorithms, school opening or not and the wearing of masks, some Universities are worried about a further outbreak. One person was concerned that the uni's would become treatment centers for sick students.

It's a bit late in the day to open that can of worms.

These issues should have been addressed much sooner, after all this is the 8th month of C-19.
I am ready for a winter outbreak, my "corner shop" is well stocked. It's in the corner of the craft room and extra to my pantry.

No, I have not been emptying the shelves!
No, I do not regard myself as greedy.
And No, I am not bragging.

Each week I have bought a few extra items. Food stuff, toiletries, laundry and cleaning supplies.

By the beginning of November I aim to only need fresh foods for
5-6 months. I have always kept a well stocked house  and this year have just pushed that by a little.
If we do have a surge then I will not need a weekly delivery, so I will be able to cancel alternate weeks freeing that spot for somebody else.
Equally if the weather is really nasty I will not need to worry, and will be in a position to help another household out.

I was snowed in for a week, many years ago, and fed 3 other houses till the roads were opened.

We had a little shopping trip this morning, Michael needed an orbital sander. His had been worked well beyond it,s use by and was all  but dead.
I also picked up a Lidl £1.50 fruit and veg box, it was a bargain. asparagus (omelette with some Stilton tomorrow), grapes, bananas, plums, tomatoes, lettuce and carrots.

I estimate that 90% of shoppers were not wearing face covers and were huddled in groups rather than standing back and waiting for a moment.

We were in and out in record time and back home for a late breakfast, bacon baguette with brown sauce. swoon.

Now we are off outside, with Herbie as foreman, to do a bit more in the garden.

Keep safe.

  1. I'm with you Pam, we are stocked up, if there is another panic we can sit back and watch. I have spoken with my friends and they are the same, we are the be prepared generation.

  2. I need a good stock up shop, I like to keep a well stocked house at the best of times, but winter moreso. I had flu a few years ago and knocked me out for quite a while so having a good store of everything was such a relief.

  3. The popular saying "Forewarned is forearmed"came to mind while I was reading this post. I think you are very wise to stock up. As for people not wearing masks....I despair I really do!! I thought it was compulsory for people to wear masks in the UK at present!! Has this rule been lifted? You should have received my parcel by now!! I believe I posted it on 12th!! ! Crossing fingers it isn't lost!! keep well Amanda x

    1. It is not mandatory to wear masks in Wales yet, I don't think it will be long though.

  4. I have stocked up myself, I will not be caught without toilet paper which seems to be the thing that goes missing the fastest. I have cleaning supplies, masks and hand sanitizer I make myself. With hurricane season in Florida we should be stocked up on these things anyway. Stay safe.

    1. I don't know why toilet paper and bread flour and yeast vanished within days at the start of the outbreak. There must be mounds of flour going bad all over the place.

  5. I'm really surprised that so many aren't wearing masks your way. I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of people I have seen without masks around here over the last weeks. I wonder what's going on in their minds that they don't wear them.
I think you are being really sensible - pre-preparation is never a bad thing and nothing will go to waste. I like to have a sensible stock of things in and always have done.

    1. Wales has not yet made the wearing of masks mandatory, I feel that it will happen.

  6. Hi Pam, totally with you better safe than sorry. It is the country way to be prepared. I have been adding a few bits here and there as well as making a few bits and freezing some stuff as well. Will get the new fridges and chest freezer when I get back from our next break in Devon. I have found a lot of people seem to disregard the rules particularly in the supermarkets and are usually rude and aggressive if tackled by the store personnel. Hence I am choosing less busy times if I have to shop or go to the smaller shops. Keep on doing what you do best and keep well and safe. Pattypan x

    1. I have found that many shop staff are not wearing masks, even though there are signs up asking customers to do so. Enjoy Devon.

  7. Two Management chaps in suits were going through the store last Friday, looking at all the shelves and debating what needs replenishing and what goes where. One had a notice about the 2m distance pinned to his tie, sadly they didn't adhere to it and were all over the place. They were also the only members of staff without a mask. I got fed up trying to avoid them and said: "May I ask you to heed the advice that you have pinned to your chest please?" He gave me a long strange look and suddenly replied "Yesss, sorry"! as the penny dropped. I came across them again in another aisle, the notice had gone!!! LOL

    1. Yet again I am not surprised. Tesco have signage asking customers to wear masks, hardly any of the staff do so and they seem to congregate in clusters.

  8. I have done exactly the same, stocked up ready for the Winter. I am saddened that people are not wearing masks.

  9. I saw a Youtube clip on the 1.50 Lidl produce boxes. What a bargain, especially if there were freezable things. I have a child at a University, and I hope the people that ignore health and safety stay far away.
