Mercury update

Just a quick visit to say that the Mercury socks are finished,

They took just over 50 gs of wool so the rest of the ball will make a pair of trainer socks.

The only reason that I can get 2 pairs out of 1 skein is that in the end I decided to knit them for Fran, her feet are considerably smaller than mine.

I will be making at least 2 pairs for myself, the wool is all earmarked. I love the pattern and am thinking of using it for a little summer top in a cotton blend.

Fran goes back in the morning and it will be quiet without her, but I am also looking forward to the free time and space. Once the decs and tree come down I will be on cloud nine, it is nice for a while then becomes an irritation.

I will be back possibly not till Sunday, I have another gift to share with you but only part of it is here, I hope to see the rest tomorrow.

    1. I used to have nightmares about dpns, then I discovered circular needles and magic loop. More than 2 dozen pairs of socks later I am still in love with knitting them.

  3. Lovely socks. I'm with you on what starts off lovely soon becomes an irritation after the Big Day! I took off the decorations from tree no. 2 tonight, and the rest will come down tomorrow.

Tam and Zane went back today (along with Yorkshire Puss) - the other two were only here for Christmas eve/Day and the start of Boxing Day . . .

    1. It is lovely having guests but even better when they all go and you can do what you want, when you want. Not to mention the washing up.

  4. The socks are lovely, Pam. I must pick up my knitting again. I've had the second sleeve of a cardigan on my needles for over a month. I'm also looking forward to some peace and quiet next week. I've had visitors here for 3 weeks and DH will be back at work on Tuesday...it will be bliss to relax and do my own thing.

    1. I have a sweater in much the same state from the summer, it is on the list and the sewing cabinet ready and waiting. I am just so into socks that I can not bring myself to pick it up yet.

    1. I felt the same, all those pointy dpns. Then I watched a few podcasts and saw people knitting on long circulars and I was off. Take that step and you will be amazed at how easy it is.

    1. Both my granny and Mum knitted socks on dpns and although I watched them I could never get the hang of it. Now I am struggling to use small circulars, but I will keep on trying while I use long ones and magic loop most of the time.

  9. Such pretty socks, lovely yarn! I've no problem with dpns, that's how I learned as a child. Can't do with small circulars as the tips are too small for me (I knit continental) but magic loop or two circulars is fine too. Do you knit socks with different heels too? Such as afterthought/fish lips kiss or squircle?
