After the rain this morning I ventured out with camera in hand and rattled off some random shots.
Oops, not this one, it is my dress pattern, I hope to get it cut out this week.
Apple Blossom, complete with hover fly. I was hoping that my "bug hotels" would bring them in.
A Purple sprouting broccoli, almost over but a picking for later. I have two other plants still producing but this heat will do for them.
My new rhubarb patch, I will not pull any this year. I do have some more plants that I grew from seed and am eager to try them, again next year.
Rocket Potatoes, in their buckets.
Tall peas just about to start to climb.
Cambridge Favourite, about to flower.
Wild Strawberries, not only in flower but with some fruit forming.
Tulips, alas the wind and rain have taken their toll.
Two of the many pots that I have dotted around the garden. Once they go over I have more coming on to take their places.
This is a poor shot of a little miracle. I bought a young Apple tree from Poundstretcher, reduced down to pennies as it was so late in the year. I dug a hole and popped the very scanty root ball in. Then after back filling and firming it well in I chopped it down to 18" and gave it a good soaking. Just above the graft there is a new shoot emerging, fingers crossed that in time this will become a step over tree. If it is successful I will try some more next year, I had them in Tydd and they bear an amazing amount of fruit, because the sap does not have to climb far it just flows along.
And finally a naughty tray of cookies, oats, coconut, choc chips and cranberries. Still warm they are tooooo goooood.
And, to heap coals upon the fire, there are two cakes in the oven, apple, pear and cinnamon.
Even worse, there is cream in the fridge.
TTFN Pam
Your garden is looking fresh and abundant, enjoy your feasts, you deserve it xx ( I would have cream with it )
ReplyDeleteI intend to, whipped with a little vanilla paste.
DeleteYour broccoli has done really well, I am going to pick some rhubarb this week a first picking off the plant, keep us updated on your little miracle tree
ReplyDeleteI am very pleased with it, just common late PSB from Wilko. I will keep the tree in the news.
DeleteOh my goodness, stop tempting me. I've not had chocolate for a week or a biscuit or cake. I'll concentrate on looking at your beautiful flowers and veg now and take my mind off your last picture!
ReplyDeletexx
They are not as bad as they sound, I use a granular sweetener in place of the sugar.
DeleteLovely things going on in your garden. I thought the broccoli was a flower....it looks so pretty.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the cake-x-
I have let one plant flower, I hope to collect some seeds for a trial. I will post a photo tomorrow.
DeleteOh Pam, can I ever relate. Why can't I stop eating!!! I like your last post too! Your vegetables and flowers are so pretty and I sure hope the little apple tree makes it. I have the same dress pattern and really want to make myself the dress. So far I haven't even picked out the fabric.
ReplyDeleteI have some fabric ready for a trial run and some on order for the real thing. I do try to eat healthy most of the time.
DeleteThat's a sweet dress pattern. I've got a similar one but I've not cut it out yet. My mouth is watering at the bakes and I'm interested to know what step over tree is X
ReplyDeleteA step over tree is just one that has been trained to grow horizontally, usually pruned to allow two branches to grow around 12" to 24" above the ground. They act as a border along a path and carry a heavy load of fruit. Much nicer than a little fence that needs painting every year.
DeleteOhhh that sounds fantastic! It's kinda exactly what it says on the tin!
DeleteYour garden is really looking good, much further ahead than mine. Good luck with the step over tree it sounds amazing. Love the sound of the cake.
ReplyDeleteIt tastes better than it sounds. yum
DeleteI like the look of your pattern and am interested in how it turns out. x
ReplyDeleteI have the sheeting ready but am quite lost in my new quilt blocks.
DeleteLots of goodness in your garden! Enjoy your dressmaking!
ReplyDeleteyes and I will.
DeleteGosh, you've been busy! I think you must have an Organized Head on your shoulders - mine is the sort that is NOT, as a rule! I hope the apple tree is obliging for you - as it came cheap, you can experiment. Love the chair throw too - that light green is a lovely colour and I have a "thing" about a light jadey green at the moment. You know, that sort of 1930s green. Like the look of the dress you're going to make.
ReplyDeleteThe little shoot is growing apace, that pale green is the very last bit from a bolt that I picked up on my travels. It is a great shade for putting light in a dark pattern and a place to rest the eyes in a busy quilt. Now I hope to find something similar.
