One down, One started

Projects that is. The chair throw is in place now and A is happy with it.
I took her hubster to the Singleton hospital this afternoon for the eye check, a few more hours frittered away with some "use the stash" crochet. note to self.....take a photo woman.

All proceeded and the pronouncement is A Cataract, this needs dealing with and he is now on the list.

Back to the throw.

Watch the birdie.

Archie and Dolly gave it their seal of approval.

I saw this on a Missouri Quilt co. video and had to have a try. They used black sashing but I will go with white, I may use these in it or they may become a cushion cover. I do have a box of 5" squares that I cut myself and 3 charm packs to pick through. That is one block and I will want 56. Those diagonal seams went well but I took my time, I don't mind a slightly wavy edge but not block middles.

The day started drizzley, grey and sticky, we had a few heavy showers but it was dry when I set off to the hospital. By the time we were back home the sun had burnt through and it was very hot and humid, who needs Florida.

I am off to Ystalafera in 30 minutes, a visit, a walk for Ben and perhaps a quick pop into Asda. Just for a look there is nothing that I want or need.

Then I will batten down the hatches and play with fabric, or maybe not.

BTW I mentioned a few days ago that I was after books by Harlan Coben, well I found some and they are not for me. I was puzzled as I am enjoying The Five on TV but found that he had written it for the TV. I thought that it was adapted from a book, never mind another author will surely emerge that I like.

My tea is cooling so I am off now.

  1. Pam, your quilting is lovely! I'm going to have a bash at first joining some fabrics together, to make a cover for my tool box. It'll be my virgin voyage so to speak for my cutting board and ruler and rotary cutter!!! Eeeep!

    1. Just remember to measure twice, at least, and cut once. I suggest that you practice on a bit of fabric that does not matter just to get the feel of it. I remember slicing a couple of pillow cases up into strips and then sub cutting into squares. I sewed and pressed them and used them to find my 1/4" seam.

  2. Lovely quilt Pam. Sometimes I wish I was more of a sewer than knitter when I see the quilts etc that you have made. Never mind, too late now, although I am doing some hand patchwork at the moment. You were lucky with the weather today as it has rained here all day and I don't think we live too far away from each other. I suppose that's the difference of living in the valleys, the mountains attract the rain. The clouds come so low you feel you could touch them.

    1. I sometimes wish that I only used fabric OR yarn, there are not enough days in the week for me to make every pattern that catches my eye.

  3. I could just squidge myself up in that chair with a good book and a cuppa....especially on a day like it's been here today with yet more rain-x-

  6. It really is beautiful, love the vibrant fabrics. You certainly got lucky with the weather we had rain most of the day, but at least it was a little warmer.

  7. Hi Pam, first I absolutely love your dress patter. Can I ask for some advice, I've recently retired from teaching and want to diversify my sewing. Any ideas what would be a simple quilt to start with? Is YouTube a good source of information on technique?

  8. You Tube is an excellent place to look, I like the Missouri Quilt Company tutorials but there are many more. As a starter quilt you could just use 5" charm squares and sew them together in strips then join the strips up. The main thing to get to grips with is a consistent 1/4" seam. Try writing Beginners quilting into the search engine, or How to make a Quilt. You should get a variety of things to look at.
