Saturday Sewing.

The overnight drizzle lasted through most of today with the odd decent shower. Although there has not been a huge amount what has fallen has sunk in to the soil rather than running off.

Cue a happy "no watering tonight" dance.

I have knitted seemingly non stop for several days so today I turned on the sewing machine.

The piano key border is on the lattice quilt top and I inset some fussy cut birds for extra interest.

I love that bird fabric, and am being very very mean with it. Every last scrap will be used.

I saw a Fat Quarter shop tutorial for zipped pouches last week and decided to make my own version today. I made it considerably bigger thinking it would hold knitting patterns. Of course I did not measure anything and they are rather too big.

I used a few candy squares for the front of this one.

I rootled out the last birdie block for the back.
I used an iron on batting rather than the soft and stable on the tutorial. There was just enough to make two, I will use the proper stuff if I make some more.

Some more candy and a fat quarter from Hobby Craft made the front of the second one.

A crazy patchwork block was perfect for the back.

Both are lined with this dragonfly and flower fabric and both have ribbon zipper pulls.

Although they are rather large I am very happy with the result. I made them from memory as I just couldn't be bothered to look for the tutorial.
I am not sure what to use them for, but I am sure something will spring to mind.

In fact if anyone has an idea the second one is up for grabs, just drop me a comment. If more than one wants it I may just make some more, I have a stack of orphan blocks looking for a home.

Now I better go and restore a semblance of order before I settle down to some knitting, I am well past the armhole shaping on the cardigan fronts. I would like to have it finished by Knit and Natter so I can start the socks.

PS I should have said that the pouch is 14" wide by 17 1/2" tall.

  1. One of those would be great for keeping my tights in! It would stop them getting mixed up with other things in my drawer.

    1. Mmm good idea, I keep mine in shallow fabric baskets, I keep them divided by weight and colour.

  2. If it's A4 size it would be perfect for my cross stitch pattern pages. You work as always stunning.

  3. Pam, the sewing is just lovely, I keep a pouch in my handbag full of patchwork EPP or cross stitch so when I have those annoying pesky appointments that drag on I can just dig them out to relieve the absolute boredom!!! I like "big" sure a crotchet needle and some wood would fit them lovely too... Please don't add me to the list sure someone else is more deserving.xxx

    1. I take crochet in a pretty bag when I know that I will be sitting about waiting. It is usually a conversation starter, someone will ask what I am making and then someone will ask where I got the bag.

  4. The pouches are so pretty! I love the fabrics. It is amazing how you get so many things done. Your flowers (your last post) are just beautiful. Glad you got some rain.

    1. I just ignore what I do't want to see until I am ready to deal with it. As long as the kitchen and bathroom are clean the rest can slip a bit. Then when I have sewn or knitted myself silly I have a blitz day.

    1. WOO HOO, I love a finish. I dragged out a top that just needs squaring up and a border added. It will wait till the end of the week though.

  8. The pouches are beautiful. I would use it to keep all my little bits of yarn in that I use up on the twiddle muffs I decorate.
