Time management

When I was in paid employment I worked full time plus extra hours for admin, computerized and paper records were mandatory in food manufacturing then, and probably still are.
I ran the home, looked after 3 Spaniels, 2 cats, a husband and son. I also had a wide group of friends and met up frequently with them. I sewed, knitted and crocheted and did the gardening.

Now I only have the last paragraph and still run out of hours. Something to do with the years that have passed I expect.
But, it is also due to the well known conundrum That the more time you have to do a task, the more time it takes.
When I lived to the clock everything ran like, well .... clockwork, and still had time to watch telly, read books and loll about chatting.

I would hate to go back under clock rule but really should get my time management under some sort of control.

I have been looking for spinning groups in my area.

Yes, Yes, Yes

After consulting with Francesca I will be having a spinning wheel this year.

I have found 2 groups within a reasonable drive and a course, which unfortunately is not until November.

But, in the interest of getting my toe in the door I will be tootling to Wonder Wool, at the end of the month. There will be spinners there and I will be picking brains and "fingers crossed" trying out a wheel or 3.
I also intend to dry a drop spindle while I am there. It will make for a portable craft other than sock knitting.
I also have another craft idea in mind but can not share that right now. It will be a gift and the proposed recipient reads this.
Back to the spinning course, Francesca quite fancies having a go so it will be part of her birthday gift. With any luck we will be able to help each other along.

Part of the course is preparing raw fleece to spin and that really appeals to me. How cool to knit something as a gift and be able to say, "I had the fleece straight off the sheep to me and I made it into wool and then into this for you."

There I go, counting all those chickens before the eggs are laid, never mind hatched. They could all turn out to be addled.

I am hoping for a little better weather today, we had hailstones like marbles yesterday and there is snow on the ground in Powys. That is not so far from here as the crow flies. (or should that be Red Kite)
Anyway I have changed all the sofa throws and cushion covers so if it looks half tidy will be pegging out soon.

I am going to whizz through replying to some comments and catch up on some blog reading. Then later will be working on the second sleeve of my jumper. I really want it off the needles, swiftly followed by my pink cardigan, a loong time WIP that deserves to be finished soon. Very Soon.

  1. I know exactly what you mean Pam about time management. When I look back to the time I worked outside the home I can't believe how many things I did and how much I got done especially when I spent a lot of my later working life travelling all over the country. I think being at home now I do tend to put things off for other days if I don't fancy doing them and I spend way too much time on the computer dipping in and out of things all day long.
Spinning your own yarn sounds like a lovely thing to do and I can imagine it being quite soothing.

    1. I just find that the day runs away with me, I even use a couple of hours before the SO gets up for podcast watching and some knitting. That does not seem to help at all. I do not spend too much time on the 'puter as it makes my eyes sore. I am going to get a drop spindle to play with till I get a wheel.

    1. I am off to a spinning group next week in search of advice as to which wheel is the better option. I don't want to get one that i will grow out of quickly.

  3. There will certainly not be any pegging out here, the wind is howling and the rain is lashing down.

  4. I was thinking about your blog, Jealous or Practical but never got around to comment. It's really time that I am kind of jealous about not the stash. Guess I will have to do some time management as well to squeeze more time in for knitting :-)

    1. I suppose that it all boils down to choices. My little dog had me up at stupid o'clock this morning. Once I am awake I can not go back so the living room was dusted and polished, sofa covers changed before 6.this morning. That is one bit of time used well.

    2. You are of course right it boils down to choices. Don't like to be woken up necessarily but I do love the early morning quietness if I occasionally get up really early. Looking forward to see your spinning efforts!

  5. I hope you enjoy spinning. I have often thought of taking a class, but since no sheep are raised around here getting fleece could be a problem.

To be involved with something start to finish will be wonderful.

    God bless.

    2. Many years ago we had a friend who was a very good spinner. When we were over seeing them one day she tried to teach me to spin on her wheel, her husband almost died laughing........there was some decent yarn in it but most of it was lumps and bumps....but I did get on better with the drop spindle.

    3. I have watched some video tutorial and most people say that the first few attempts result in lumpy bumpy yarn, I hope so as I rather like the idea of weaving with that as the weft. I used a drop spindle as a school girl and got on well but it was a very long time ago.

  6. I watched a spinning demo in December at a local farm where they were selling local wools. Therapeutic the lady said and addictive..... hope you both enjoy it.
