Off the Wagon, big time.

I told you the other day that I have a birthday on the horizon, today I was given an early gift. Part birthday and part a thank you gift.

I went to Lampeter  to visit this glorious place, a veritable  Mecca for anyone who sews.

In the door and look left,

then right.

Take a few steps and peep through a doorway.

Down a corridor and look in here,

then here.

Glance up some stairs,

Look higher.

Ooh a room full of Batiks.

Yes, I was in Calico Kate. It was mesmerising, there are many more rooms and I will take photos on my next visit.

I was in a whirl, what to choose, where to look. Brights, bolds, muted, dark, so many choices so many colours.

I did get back to Earth and made my choices.

A step outside my comfort zone were 4 x metre lengths of greens. I do use green at times so these  will help to pad my meagre collection out nicely.

4 fat quarters, yellow and orange, instant sun shine. (another touch of green)

2 charm packs, for fun, on a metre of a blue/grey solid. This is to get me away from the white that I normally use. I wanted this for the sashing on a 9 patch quilt top, the blocks are made but I could not settle on the sashing colour, this is an almost perfect colour match to the real thing and I will be cutting it this week. Now I have to decide on corner stones.

So much for no new fabric till the stash was used, although this was a gift. I did order some from the Fabric Guild yesterday at such low prices, when it arrives I will share. I did not so much fall off the wagon as take a flying leap over the side.

I left Cwmgors in bright sun shine but came back through rain and drizzle, this has now stopped so Ben will have a quick walk before I get dinner ready.
The sky is getting brighter by the minute and I need some fresh air and exercise, rather than drooling over my new fabric.

  1. Calico Kates is a wonderful shop and the way it has been laid out is fantastic, their choice is also fantastic although I do find them a bit on the pricey side but whats money if it brings you pleasure :-)

    1. I was in heaven and could have filled the car with colour. The prices are a little high compared to some of the internet shops that I use bur I will be careful not to waste a bit. As this was a gift I was restrained in my choices, and as you say the pleasure is there.

    1. I loved it, there are two more rooms than the last time I was there. I may well be back again within a week as there is a British Heart Foundation fund raising tea party in The Pantry coming up.

  8. Entering that store would be like getting a sugar rush. So much fabric I wouldn't now which way to turn first. Looks like you got some lovely pieces. As far as not adding to the stash, it doesn't count when it is a gift. That would be my story anyway! Enjoy!!

  11. It's JUST like a mill I go to in Skipton! Same wooden stairs, similar lay out. Next time I go, I'll show you. But oh just itching now to stroke my hands and eyes up those fabric bolts! You chose well and I adore that sweet hi de Ho fabric. It's GORGEOUS! Happy Birthday in advance! As for mo ey, because you are so thrifty elsewhere, it's your choice to spoil it on yourself and knowing you Pam, it'll end up being gifted away xx

  12. I have already cut the solid fabric into sashing and started to assemble the quilt top, it will be a gift. Once I have opened the charm packs I will decide which I like the best and then stock up for a pattern that is in my minds eye.

  13. Isn't Calico Kate THE most fabulous patchwork shop?! I spent 10 days touring Wales as part of a 10 week trip to G B in 2014. I went out of my way to visit Lampeter just to indulge my Quilty fabric habit. I also took photos of every room. Trying to fit my purchases into my luggage to travel home to Australia was quite a problem. Love it! Enjoy your fabrics, and your next trip to see Kate's gorgeous shop.

  14. That is so funny, I did just the same on every trip to Perth. There are some lovely quilt shops around WA, I could easily live there if it wasn't for the weather. Much as I love the sun I do like rain and green, mountainous landscapes, hence my move to Wales

  15. I've not travelled to WA yet. We hope to get there within the next five years. I LOVED Wales! I was thrilled to be there. I hope to visit again next year when I travel over to GB again to attend my daughters PhD graduation ceremony.
