Year of the Quilt mark 2.

I don't quite know how it happened, it certainly was not planned, in fact I was planning quite the opposite and had a list of smaller projects .  I have just finished the quilting on quilt numbers 8 and 9. That is since September, there were a few before that.
One was a quilt top that had been waiting for ages and two of them are just a bit bigger than cot sized and made from panels, three are whole cloth single bed size for the grandchildren so not very much piecing required. The remaining three were so much the opposite, lots of cutting and sewing, and I could easily have kept all of them.

I did this very same thing a couple of years ago but that was planned, this time it just seemed to happen. To cap that I found myself planning another two quilts, one will be for charity and I have decided that I will use a version of Quilt as You Go. I will raid the stash for the front but will be looking to buy the backing fabric. I still have plenty of wadding, the joy of buying a huge roll 90" wide, probably enough for 3 large quilts and a few smaller projects, I zig zag all the trimming strips over 3" together and use for bags and cushion fronts, smaller strips come in for handles and toy stuffing. I try very hard not to waste anything, after all no matter how small I still had to pay for it.

I am having my first cuppa of the day and skipping through You Tube, I have just seen a Jordan Fabrics tutorial for a table runner. I will be making that up into a quilt, I just found a free pattern on line and bookmarked it.

I am off for a shower now, I am in llandeilo for the day and am looking forward to lots of quilty chatter.

PS. For those who have asked, The SO is my significant other. He prefers to remain incognito but has caught the quilting bug so may step out of the shadows at some point.

  1. You never cease to amaze me with the amount of quilting - plus plenty of knitting and other crafts - you do. I wish I were half as industrious as you with just my crocheting! Have a lovely quilty day in Llandeilo.

    1. I had a great day thank you, several people popped in just because they saw me through the window. I get my jobs all done as quick as possible then the afternoon is for sewing and I knit in the evening.

  2. I have a friend that quilts and she throws all her trimmings, both large and small into a bag and gifts them tome. I've made several quilts from just her cast off pieces. I'm like you in that I don't like to waste anything. The last bag of cast offs had a large piece of material in it and when I asked her about it she said she liked it when she saw it in the store but didn't like it when she got it home in the light.

    1. That's the sort of friend that we could all use. I lived in a town in Norfolk for several years and had a friend who always bought size 12 clothes, after a couple of weeks she passed them on to me as the diet she meant to go on didn't happen.

    1. I used the tutorial from Jean Truelove, very simple to make but eye catching. I have made 2 with a patchwork panel for the top rather than a single cut.

  4. I need to learn some time management tips from you Pam. I just don't seem to be able to make time to do anything other than housework at the moment.
I love Jordan Fabrics videos....I also love the machine she uses.
    Have fun in lowlander....lol.

    1. You have more to look after than I do and that is without the little people. Those industrial machines are amazing but they take up lots of room.

  5. I really need to use up all the bits and bobs of fabric here as I keep all my scraps from sewing clothing. I should work at a couple more quilts, this time just for us.

You made so many quilts this year!

    God bless.

    1. Making a patchwork quilt was a way of using every last scrap of fabric, and using the best bits of well worn clothing. I have made a few like that over the years.

  6. Dear Pam, I've just caught up with all your post I've missed lately. You amaze me with all the sewing and quilting and knitting you get done. I have lots of scraps too, but just don't know how to begin piecing them together for a quilt. Maybe I should look up some tutorials. Your quilts are beautiful!
