5 days into Advent

The time is flying by, I am so happy that we are well in front of all the preparations. As so many bloggers say, it falls on the same dates every year so there should be no need for panic and running round like a headless chicken.

The most relevant word there is should. easier said than done, especially if you have children and/or animals. Someone is bound to catch a nasty bug/break a limb/decide to hate the rest of the family and pets will get ill/escape/chew something vital up.
That is without the household appliances that wait until 3 days before Christmas before breaking down.

Having said all that we all survive to do it all over again and again..
Thank goodness, just imagine what would happen to the economy if just a quarter of us decided to call time and have a slap up holiday in the sun instead.

Anyhoo, enough of that drivel. The SO has been busy with lights and tinsel. The mantle is looking good,

I need to get some more baubles along the front, hopefully later today.

The Advent socks have not seen much action so far. This yarn is Candy Cane from Little French Meadow, I bought it at the beginning of the year. I love how the white is almost creating a wreath effect.

The stocking stitch on the sole looks completely different.

This yarn should have been for the new pattern from Ellie of Craft House Magic but my #*%$^y printer is having a hissy fit. It has decided that it does not like the new cartridges and has more lights flashing than all the Christmas trees in the village. I have put it in the naughty corner till the new year.

AND the ball winder threw in the towel and died on me. I have put that in the recycling. That can also wait until the new year, if I run out (fat chance) of caked up yarn I can hand wind. I will get another but a really nice wood one, pretty please there will be one in a sale somewhere.

Now it is so time for tea, my throat is as dry as chaff.

I hope that you are all on track and all is calm.

  1. It's lovely that your SO is happy and willing to get so involved in everything, or even do things himself without any prompting. Mine needs a bit of encouragement sometimes, but he's generally a good old stick (not so much today, but that's a story for another day!).

    1. Oh he has his off days, as do I, but on the whole I could not wish for better.

  2. I haven't touched the sock knitting in ages. I just can't motivate myself. That gorgeous sock you have started has made me think I may light the fire and curl up in front of it with some knitting this afternoon.

    1. I always have at least one pair on the needles and another pair in my mind.

  4. Your mantel looks lovely Pam.
Gift shopping is done here and I am starting to think about the food. Just us three this year so we won't be going mad. I have the turkey and I will make the bread sauce and stuffing to pop in the freezer next week so hopefully there will be no headless chicken impressions going on...lol.

    Hugs-x-

    1. We do not have Turkey, I can not bear the smell of it cooking or the taste. I would have goose but I am the only one who likes it. We are having rib of beef on the bone this year.

    1. Thank you, I still have some more to sew on to the runner, it just breaks up the fireplace, and after all you need lots of bling.

  6. Hoping your sciatica is much better today.
Nice red/white yarn, that's knitting up a treat.
    Your mantle looks very festive.

  7. The mantle looks really pretty! You tickle me. I haven't heard anybody say 'hissy fit' in ages.

    1. Enjoy the giggle, I do use the phrase now and then, showing my age.
