No Vampires here.

When I was in town getting the tree I popped into Tesco on the off chance.
I had a little haul that included large pots of double cream down to 25% and some baguettes for 11 p. Sweet. So last night I made butter, some of that was mixed with a healthy amount of garlic. That went into the baguettes and garlic bread is now in the freezer, along with some lightly salted butter.
While I was spreading the garlic butter into the bread the SO asked if I was expecting an invasion of Vampires.

Ha, the smell will knock them down at 100 paces.

I was delighted to get 340 grams of butter from each 50p pot. There will be scones made and spread with homemade butter for Fran and I and Shortbread for the SO. We usually have a "high tea" at least once when Fran is here, it makes for a little celebration between Christmas and New Year.

Francesca sent us Advent calendars again and they are from Hotel Chocolate, milk for the SO and dark for me.

I am not in a chocolate frame of mind right now (no not ill, just  a change of taste.) but the SO is helping out.
That little fruit dish is overflowing with red grapes reduced to 50 p a pack. some are frozen to use as ice cubes)

My knitting is now living in this bag, it only seems right when the house is having a bling session.

I was up at stupid o'clock this morning, my sciatica decided to join me for a while, (drat, drat and double drat. Who remembers the Wacky Races then).

But it means that a huge amount of sewing took place. My chair in the sewing room is nothing special but it provides the right amount of support, in exactly the right place, and is the only seat in the house that relieves the pain. Otherwise I tend to pace around moaning and whinging.

By the time my painkillers kicked in I was ready for a slice of toast, a cuppa and a few Vlogmas videos on You Tube.
Now, of course, I want to cast on about 300 jumpers and cardigans, as many pairs of socks and a flock of sheep's worth hats, mittens and shawls.
Did I mention that I could order a lorry load of yarn to help me with all that?
I can not even begin to list all the fabric, patterns and sewing gadgets that call me to buy, buy, buy.

I will not succumb, if only for the fact that I have no where to put anything.
Then there is the want versus need thing, I do not need anything else just now.
Plus none of it is a serious want, it is more akin to window shopping as a pastime.

No, I have enough to keep me out of mischief for many months. Let us be real here, when I am ready to restock there will be a whole new raft of gorgeous yarns, exciting patterns and wondrous fabrics to drool over.

I know that this is early, just a few hours after yesterday's late post but I I do not publish now it may not happen. I feel that this day is going to be a busy one again. I just hope that I find my missing Angel and then she can lend a hand.

  1. There's so much temptation when you watch podcasts and vlogs, it's so easy to buy things now at the click of a button but, like you, I have enough to keep me out of mischief for a long time yet. Plus, I'm sure some gorgeous new yarn will appear in my Christmas stocking anyway.

    1. I am not sure about getting yarn but I suspect (hope) that there will be some knitting kit and maybe a book or two. I am hoping for some kitcheny bits as well.

  2. Well done on all that lovely homemade butter! I trust the scones won't be spread with the garlic butter though....unless they're savoury cheese ones I guess!

The Christmas quilted bag is just gorgeous, Pam. On the subject of quilted bags...last week when we were going to peruse the charity shops in our favourite little town, I wanted a heavy decent bag to take, not one of my tatty hessian shopping bags. I had a *ping* moment and remembered the craft bag you'd made me, the big one with the very cleverly quilted sewing machine on it. I emptied it out (it had 2 UFO's in it) and took that, it was marvellous, looked great and held so much. I was even asked by one of the charity shop staff where I'd got it, I told her that a very talented friend had made it for me, she said she wished she had a friend like that!

    1. I am so glad that you were happy with the bag. As for the butter I am now thinking that garlic butter in and on cheese scones needs to be tried out.

    1. It is my first flareup for months, I can not remember the last one. It will probably linger for a few days, it will pass.

  4. I hope you manage to find the missing angel and if she does manage to lend a hand send her my way, I could do with an extra pair of hands.

    1. Nope, she is in hiding. If I do find her she may have to pack her bags and move out.

  5. Pam, I am a US reader. I have had several bouts of sciatica that lasted a long time, but I found the solution that works for me. Several years ago, I was having sciatica when we went to Costa Rica on vacation. By the time the plane landed, they almost had to roll me off the plane. Desperate for a solution, I went online and found simple exercises on your NHS website. https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/exercises-for-sciatica/ The one that worked for me was "lying deep gluteal stretch." I began getting a little relief the very first day and began increasing the frequency of the exercise. Most of the pain was gone by the time we came home a week later. Of course, while everyone else was at the beach, I was lying on the floor doing stretches...but at least I was getting better, fast. I have had a few twinges in the years since then, but as soon as I begin to feel them, I start the exercises again and have never had a full-blown attack since. I like pain pills as well as the next guy, but this is sooooooooo much better.

  6. I have an exercise routine but had let it slide for a few days. Lesson learnt and hopefully not forgotten again. Thank you for the link I will be taking a look.
